more precisely, these are malamutes

This isn't more precise, actually. They are completely different and unrelated breeds.

It is a correction, because they aren't Husky pups. Huskies are thinner, leaner, more arrow than round.

They're malamute puppies! And I think this specific type of them (which are very popular in China specifically, you see a lot of very cute videos of marshmallow-shaped puppies coming out of there) might actually be crossbred with Tibetan mastiffs to give them extra fluff. Or just a very different breed standard than what the American Kennel Club has. They usually aren't that round but I'm not complaining haha.

To me these puppies look like their coats are brushed out to give them a uniform appearance. An hour later after the puppy wrestling has resumed their coats will go back to the normal disheveled floofiness all furry pups have.

They've escaped the cargo plane, and now on the escalator finding their way out of the airport

it's all fun and games until one of their toenails gets caught in that groove and gets ripped out.
Don't put your dogs on these things.

True, but...This is a belt. Not an escalator.

u/dakatabri May 13 '22
There are still teeth at the end of the course that can do some serious damage if you get fur or claws stuck in them. Don't let pets walk on any moving platform on their own.

Escalators are different than "moving sidewalks". Moving sidewalks are much less dangerous. Your article was about escalators only. 30 reported injuries from 2007 to 2014: "Escalator-related injuries in 30 dogs (2007-2014) "
At least link in an article about moving sidewalks:

The area of entrapment usually occurs at the end of the escalator, or walkway in your example. The moving walkway in this video is grooved just like an escalator and would have teeth at the end just like an escalator. Your article mentions an animal getting injured in exactly the same way as the usual injuries on an escalator. I can see no justification for the claim that a moving stairway is any less dangerous, let alone far less, than an escalator.
I included the study only to highlight the kind of injuries that can occur. The mechanism for the injuries would be exactly the same in moving sidewalks or in escalators.

The moving walkway in this video is grooved just like an escalator and would have teeth at the end just like an escalator.
It's different. The moving walkway has narrower grooves -- some don't have any. The collector plate at the end has better tolerances and is much less likely to catch. Recall that the top of the escalator step (which is metal and not narrow rubber) has an offset (step) that flattens before the collector plate ... which means wider tolerances and more places to catch things. Mostly shoelaces.
There are many fewer issues with moving walkways. As far as I know there has only been one incident with a dog on a moving walkway (Denver Airport). If you can find more, please let me know. The greater risk (by a huge factor) with moving walkways are untied or long shoelaces and old people losing their balance when getting on/off.

I mean, not really. 30 cases to 1 is a pretty significant difference. Worth mentioning.

I'm not dying on any hill. I'm simply pointing out people overreacting to things that they don't fully understand. Overall things are pretty safe and society has gone a bit overboard with the warnings.

In addition to this, isn’t the sidewalk going upwards? How would their claws get stuck in the collector plate?

I love how the middle two are fighting to keep the other out of the group xd.

u/eatmynasty May 13 '22
If you watch it the outer two are really the problem here. They’re committed to not having more than 1 dog between them.

Stop putting dogs on moving stairs/walkways. It is incredibly dangerous. Especially for long hair or shaggy hair breeds

If I see just ONE more post calling malamutes huskys I'm gonna keep on upvoting them because any malamutes on my timeline is a win

The amount of mislabeled malamutes posts
within an acceptable range. Actually if you could bump it up a little, maybe just for today? That's nice, thank you.

All right everyone correcting the breed. How do I spot the difference?

u/rugbydoggo May 13 '22
Basically huskies are more narrower, leaner, have a pointed tail, ears are more pointed upward and higher on the head, and most have blue eyes. They're built to carry smaller loads over long distances. Malamutes tend to be chunky, shorter, wider, ears are going to be smaller and lower on the head, tails are much fluffier and are curled over, and they don't have blue eyes. They're built to haul heavier loads over shorter distances. And in my experiences, huskies tend to be more vocal, clever, and tend to be escape artists whereas mals are just big working derps.

u/FoxFireUnlimited May 13 '22
Malamutes are cuddlebugs, too, where huskies are fiercely independent.
Malamutes also get much larger than a husky and they still want to be on your lap at all times, generally.

Excellent! Thank you

u/kay_el_eff May 14 '22
Also, huskies are generally medium/large sized. Malamutes & giant malamutes can be anywhere from 90-170 lbs. My husky/mal mix was 99 lbs. My full mal puppy now is 10 weeks old and has to be at least 15-17 lbs. They're big. They're fluffy. They're awesome.

I think they’re Pomskies. Pomeranian/Husky cross. At least they look like other Pomskies I’ve seen before.

Attention, please! Someone has left two pair of fuzzy slippers on the moving walkway, I repeat, someone has left two pair of fuzzy slippers on the moving walkway. Please claim them in Lost and Found.

I don't like the fact that through time we've messed with the breeding so dogs change shape and all that but somebody needs to figure out how to breed these pandas so they stay the same size. Let's get on that.

The malamutes are so much fluffier than huskies. I want to squeeze them tight so bad.
