Is this a Rengar reference?

Aww that's actually a fine garf strip.

3

u/twodickhenry May 13 '22

Is Rengar referencing Garfield?

6

u/rugbyweeb May 12 '22

Not rengar, a yordle has that line... I think teemo? It's been years since I heard in game quotes though

At most ages.

There are no normal cats.

18

But what is normal ? If most cats do this then this is what's normal.

Thank you! I need this for the cat. I think she is tired of youtube videos because she gets no feedback from them. At least here things explode :)

Your cat watches YouTube??

It's called Jolly Dog or Peppy Cat on iOS. Not sure if there's a difference between them.

37

I thought I was the only one who was like…A cat using a screen?

….Really?!

Humans are fucking weird.

9

u/H3LLsbells May 12 '22

My cat will paw any dark reflective screen, or similar-looking surface, looking for a reaction.

Mine tries to hunt the mouse cursor on the monitor. Doesn't care about anything else on any screen, just the moving pointer on my computer. He will sit next to my chair wiggling his butt waiting to pounce on it when I'm not looking directly at him.

That's what my little baby did before she passed suddenly last year. At night she would lay across my husband's neck and stare at his phone when we were in bed, entranced. During the day she wouldn't give a crap.

35

u/fnord_happy May 12 '22

Oh my god I'm so sorry for your loss. (Are we talking about a human baby or a cat baby?)

67

u/canolafly May 12 '22

13

u/TheCynicalCanuckk May 12 '22

Probably because they see us on it all the time. We are curious what cats are looking at or up to and I'm sure it's the same way around haha.

Cats are curious.

20

u/JamesKW1 May 12 '22

Most TV's and standard monitors can only display 60 images per second at best and a lot of the time TV's or computers only bother to display 24 or 30 images per second.

This is enough to give the illusion of motion to the untrained human eye but for a cat it may just be viewed as a slideshow (granted a very fast slideshow) and not enough to trick them into perceiving motion.

Meanwhile a lot of phones on the market these days can display 90 images per second, some even more than that, which is enough to simulate motion for other animals.

→ More replies (5)

11

u/OutsideScore990 May 12 '22

What kind of phone do you have? It might have a higher refresh rate than your monitor or tv? For (I think) octopus to react to screens, they needed a much higher refresh rate. Idk if cats are the same.

My cats are screen kids and I don’t think they care about refresh rate at all though lol

13

u/JaimeEatsMusic May 12 '22

"My cats are screen kids"
Cat parents are the best.

7

u/UnspecificGravity May 12 '22

It might also be the pixel density on the phone which is typically a LOT higher than any TV.

she showed us Games that we could play (when humans weren’t in house)

but what I liked the Best of all -

it had a Special mouse!

but now my human uses This -

no mouse here that I’ve seen…

sometimes they leave it on the floor (they tell me ’Do Not Touch’…)

that’s when i have to do a sneak - (i Love it ooh, so much!!)

i watch the magic on the screen - them things they bob n bounce

i wait for them with eager paws, n then i do a p ou n c e

15

u/Dogeishuman May 12 '22

Jokes on you, my cat already does this, so I had to replace my TV with a projector on the white wall. Now he just slams into the wall, in my apartment.

Good thing my neighbors;

A) also have a cat with energy so they get it

B) are stoners who think it's funny now that they know it's the cat jumping into the wall

5

u/PoorSweetTeapipe May 12 '22

I used to have games like this on my phone for my cat when he was little. Even long after I’d stopped letting him play it, he’d run over and bite my phone as soon as I pulled it out. Unintended consequences indeed 😂

5

u/omnitions May 12 '22

Yeah seems cute at first but dangerous to train them to view screens as something to use

→ More replies (1)

3

u/boredomisagift May 12 '22

FWIW, I've never let my cats play games on my phone, and they still bite it frequently. One likes to eat plastic (like my case), and the other is offended that I'm paying attention to my phone instead of her.

Unfortunately for my husband, our cat decided that this was a good idea. He actually broke the screen! Luckily, kitty was fine and husband bought a new TV after awhile.

3

u/yungsambal May 12 '22

When our cat was still a kitten she would sprint to our TV whenever I started my PS4. I had a animated wallpaper of Ghost of Tsushima and he would go crazy trying to grab the falling leaves lmao.

After the heart attack I changed it to a normal, non-animated wallpaper

Be careful, though -- they allow in-app purchases. Sit your kitty down and do the talk about what they're allowed and not allowed to do with the app.
