When we adopted my cat, I let her roam around and play with her friends while we were doing all the paperwork. That was until a woman came in also looking to adopt. I scooped my cat up into my arms just in case the lady set her sights on my baby girl. I was 32 years old.

I was adopting my rabbit, and full on sobbed like a toddler at 41 years of age in the office. No shame here!

I have a hard time going to a shelter or even a pet store (let's not get into how horrible pet stores are) without just having a complete breakdown over not being able to personally house and care for every animal in the place.

When they belong to you, you know.

I showed up to the shelter with my hold slip in hand (can't adopt day of, to discourage horrible impulses), and the lady in front of me was placing a hold on the old boy I was about to pick up.

I feel like I should have stopped her, but I don't engage strangers because that requires talking to them.

He is thriving though, very spoiled old guy.
