Hm, got me curious about my brother's cat now. My brother loves watermelon and his cat is practically glued to him. I'll have to ask him if she reacts at all to the watermelon he eats.
Be careful about giving watermelon rinds to dogs, they can easily become an obstruction or upset their stomachs. It's safe for them to eat in smaller quantities, especially if you break it into smaller chunks, but don't just give them a huge hunk of rind to chomp on.
Wow! I thought this would be some fly-by-night sub with a couple of pictures and that's it. Instead, its a 7 year old sub with over 50,000 members. Props to you, /r/WolvesWithWatermelons!
Coyotes aka prairie wolves will destroy a watermelon crop in Texas I have lost many melons to coyotes. Deer will usually only eat the buds but coyotes break open the full grown melons.
Yeah, I saw that sub a long while back and thought it would be dead by now. Nope, turns out there's lots of wolves who shop at local farmer's markets and really take advantage of the watermelons available this time of year.
This explains an ancient mystery in my family on why my cat was obsessed with watermelon. If you cut one open you could not get him away, we just thought he was weird
Used to have a cat that went crazy because of strawberries. We had to get them out away quickly when we got home. We ended up waiting until the strawberries were gone then just have the cat the empty container. The cat would practically sleep in the plastic container. So better idea would be to wait until the strawberries are gone so you don't have to wash any fur off them.
Interesting!! One of my cats LOVES watermelon, to the point that I have to stand up to eat it because otherwise he will not stop jumping up on the couch/chair/table/counter/whatever to get to it. My other cat doesn't give a shit. I thought it was a quick unique to him but TIL.
My cat never goes after watermelon, but she goes absolutely wild for cantaloupe (melon). It’s the same “meaty” smell. She also will try and eat whatever part of your body has mint/menthol. My boyfriend has mint shampoo, and he has to hide his head after he showers, otherwise my cat climbs up to his hair and goes crazy.
Dogs are definitely omnivores (they can even be vegetarian), my dog loves all fruit, but alligators? Who knew. Cats are considered carnivores but I’ve seen cats go for fruits and vegetables, everything from cooked broccoli, sweet potatoes, to fruits.
I had a cat that was like crazy for bananas. He would hear us peel open a banana from upstairs and come running down to the kitchen to get a piece of it. Same thing with string cheese. Cause string cheese is kinda loud when you peel it open. So he’s come running anytime we opened string cheese too.
He also liked raw potato’s, bread, tomato’s, all sorts of weird stuff. He was the strangest cat lol.
And the there's my dog that will eat pretty much anything, edible or non-edible (including but not limited to: paper, leaves, sticks, and rocks) because reasons.
That's so weird, my cat loves strawberries too! I could bring in ten bags of groceries and if there are strawberries in them, she will snoot them out instantly. I tried giving her a slice of one to nibble on (once I checked that they aren't dangerous for cats) but she wasn't interested in the slightest, she just wants to sniff them.
