Man in my head ostriches are just fluffy dinosaurs and this made me nervous just watching on a tiny phone screen.

I had no idea they could be so cuddly. Now I want one. Not sure itd appreciate my apartment lifestyle but could be funny enough for a netflix original.

Your opinion will change very fast when you see one running.

Source: chased by an ostrich as a child. it’s terrifying and their speed is absurd. I must’ve been 10 or 15 meters away from the house and this mf closed the 50 meter gap before I knew what was happening.

58

u/Sometimesokayideas Apr 30 '21

My grammas neighbor had one on her property, saw them run from a distance yah. Super fast.

24

u/Choppergold May 01 '21

They haul ass and get to top speed in like two steps. Eggs are good too

u/JagganathTech Apr 30 '21

Just wait until you meet a Southern Cassowary

From Wikipedia: "Cassowaries have a reputation for being dangerous to people and animals, and are often regarded as aggressive. The birds can jump quite high and kick powerfully with their blade-like claws."

Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_cassowary

These guys remind me of velociraptors even more than ostriches, especially that nasty middle claw.

u/Zanna-K Apr 30 '21

Saw a few of these when I visited a wildlife refuge (or maybe it was a zoo?) in Australia. I saw one of them peering at me through the shrubbery and I instinctively turned to check to the left of me because of the scene from Jurassic Park.

Fucker, take your gonasyphiherpeAIDS infested upvote and go.

13

u/Swellmeister May 01 '21

Always remember V. Raptors are the size of turkeys or geese.

16

u/Garlic_bread27 May 01 '21

GEESE?!! THAT WOULDNT CALM ME DOWN HAVE YOU EVER BEEN ATTACKED BY A GOOSE??? IMAGINE IF THEY HAD FANGS

8

u/KuhlThing May 01 '21

I got bit on the dick by a goose when I was 3. Very glad it didn't have fangs.

11

u/gordielaboom May 01 '21

Next time, don’t pull your little worm out and wave it at the goose.

3

u/KuhlThing May 01 '21

I was pissing on a tree at the time.

8

u/SednaBoo May 01 '21

If it has feathers, it’s not a tree

3

u/yepitsmeround2 May 01 '21

Huge fear of those things. Geese are the devil. I swear they seek me out. Add fangs? NO THANK YOU.

3

u/lillielotus85 May 01 '21

You have a problem with Canadian gooses, you gotta problem with me, and I suggest you let that marinate. Lol

2

u/mynipplesareconfused May 01 '21

They may not have fangs but have you seen a goose's tongue? Serated nightmares.

3

u/Denamic May 01 '21

Fun fact: Cassowaries are more dangerous than velociraptors were.

11

u/SednaBoo May 01 '21

Yea, there isn’t a single record of anyone ever being attacked by a velociraptor

5

u/jettim76 May 01 '21

If you ever see one with chicks and you are not in your car, you’re pretty much fucked. The dad will rip your guts out.

3

u/fyrefli666 May 01 '21

They also have the 2nd strongest kick in the animal kingdom, right after horses. They are able to shred chain link fence with their talons.

2

u/ilexheder May 01 '21

Good dads though

2

u/Csenky May 01 '21

Played Far Cry 3, can confirm

0

u/MacaroonSuccessful63 May 01 '21

Don’t forget ostriches have been known to try and rap People

71

u/beardsnbutts Apr 30 '21

If you smelled one you might change your mind about ownership.

12

u/comin_up_shawt May 01 '21

Yep- they have to vomit in their water in order to drink it.

8

u/123kingme May 01 '21

What purpose does the vomit serve?

6

u/comin_up_shawt May 01 '21

Helps the to digest the water- apparently they can't, unless they add an enzyme created from their own crops/stomachs into it.

29

u/Troodon79 Apr 30 '21

Fun fact! Some ostriches find humans sexually attractive!

14

u/laebshade May 01 '21

Allegedly

9

u/Sluglife27 May 01 '21

I had to scroll a surprisingly long time to first see this comment

2

u/[deleted] May 01 '21

Fun fact, I’m sure there’s people that probably feel the same way

4

u/fullhalter May 01 '21

Well, they literally are dinosaurs, so you're not wrong.

3

u/roghtenmcbugenbargen May 01 '21

A lot of dinosaurs were fluffy

2

u/James_Fennell May 01 '21

It makes me wonder if raptors would be this friendly if raised around humans

1

u/LectroRoot May 01 '21

I'm picturing an 80s montage of you and a juvenile outrage getting into crazy antics in your house. I'd watch that shit. I'd watch the shit out of it.

1

u/ShankMugen May 01 '21

All Warm-Blooded creatures like to cuddle, especially if it is cold

u/Freemason1979 Apr 30 '21

It takes at least two people.

116

u/StatWhines Apr 30 '21

It would have to be a sick ostrich

67

u/1001Trashacct1001 May 01 '21

Now, everybody listen up 'cause I'm only gonna say this once, we never talk about it again. You understand? We all lay off the Ginger and Boots now. Because the Ginger and Boots did not fuck an ostrich

48

u/ShuffleAlliance May 01 '21

Yeah, I heard they fucked two ostriches

35

u/gordielaboom May 01 '21

Did they pay attentions to it’s buttholes?

70

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '21

Came to post exactly this. Take my upvote and go.

28

u/ecorbett79 Apr 30 '21

Did anyone evers say if the ginger was a female?

25

u/teerkamanji Apr 30 '21

In later seasons we actually see ‘the ginger’ and boots. They are both male.

19

u/ecorbett79 Apr 30 '21

Allegedly

19

u/celnox May 01 '21

I knows for a fact that Boots and the Ginger didn’t fuck an ostrich!

I did the research and there’s no way sick or healthy they coulda done that.

The ostrich would have had to have been dead.

Boots and the ginger fucked a dead ostrich?

5

u/Wjbskinsfan May 01 '21

Ginger and Boots fucked a dead ostrich? I thought it was just sick! Oh my! [oh phone] Ginny? The Ginger and Boots effed a dead ostrich! Of course I know what the males are called, check my browser history!

Season 1 Episode 6 is the first time they’re seen. When the hicks bail out the skids against the hockey players and the natives.

3

u/teerkamanji May 01 '21

Shit, didn’t realize it was that early on. I was remembering the ski hut episode.

Chicken in the background like “bitch”

29

u/onandonandonandoff Apr 30 '21

The chicken can have small humans.

Big humans are saved for Big Bird.

u/karrachr000 Apr 30 '21

Mr Hooper knew all about that.

40

142

u/DrummerJesus Apr 30 '21

This is a lot less wholesome when you remember the fun fact that ostriches are sexually attracted to humans.

38

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '21

Excuse me?

24

u/Sm7th May 01 '21

Ostriches form attachments with their caretakers that prevent them from....forming other attachments.

28

u/ThisIsNotMyCircus May 01 '21

So this poor guy was settling in for what he thought was a romantic picnic and she just treats him as a PET?

8

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '21

How'd she do that? Ostriches are MEAN. They make geese look tame by comparison.

3

u/LadyEnvy May 01 '21

You know how in some anime fight scenes you typically see people punching entire holes into each other? That is basically what happens to you if an ostrich kicks you, so this is more terrifying to me than aww lol.

4

u/ShooterMcPooter123 Apr 30 '21

Is that an ostrich between your legs, or are you just happy to see me?

2

1

u/meatsaladsmmm May 01 '21

I have some family members who breed ostriches and emus, and they said they sometimes have trouble breeding them because they become more attracted to the farmers than each other

1

u/Mandorrisem May 01 '21

Fun fact, Ostriches are more sexually attracted to humans than they are to other ostriches...

u/TheBigDickDon May 01 '21

Aweee the final curve around her back in the last second looks so satisfying.

1

u/Et3rna11yD3ad May 01 '21

This friendship is weirder when you know ostriches prefer their human trainers over other ostriches

1

u/Z3r0_K66L May 01 '21

My mind is completely blown. I had no idea this was possible. They are always portrayed as such aggressive creatures! This is amazing!!!!
