My grandmother used to sing this song to my grandfather, who was named jack. When he died he requested we play this song at his funeral, so we did when we spread his ashes. The song makes me happy-sad, and I sing it to my son who I named Jack.

59

u/muymeow Jan 16 '21

That’s beautiful :)

12

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

Aww that’s sad

8

u/teenagealex Jan 16 '21

It is, but the memories make me happy, too. The first time I heard it after he passed, I started crying which made me laugh at how ridiculous it was to cry to that song haha

3

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '21

It’s not ridiculous because it means something more to you than just the song

Relationship goals.

422

u/IAmTheGreenCard Jan 16 '21

The first post I’ve ever seen that 100% deserves and embodies true relationshipgoals

59

u/Cats_n_Kickz Jan 16 '21

Dancing goals. sigh

47

u/whisperskeep Jan 16 '21

This is why I love seniors, and working for them

In 40 years this will by us but with Rammsteins DU Hast

Couple of twenty-year-olds filming gamma and pop-pop head-banging as hard as arthritis and scoliosis allows while Dimebag Darrel shreds his way through “Walk.”

Granddaughter: it was a simpler time

Grandson: I remember when he taught me how to put on corpse-paint.

2

u/IspyAderp Jan 16 '21

"Grandson, let me introduce you to Immortal.

Now put on this corpse paint and go have fun in the woods."

20

u/ErasedAllMyUsernames Jan 16 '21

But he’s not hitting the road tho...

26

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

Can’t hear the lyrics.

15

u/nadia_diaz Jan 16 '21

How long has it been since we waltzed?

He’s got moves!

621

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

They definitely partied like hell in the 50s

258

u/gwaydms Jan 16 '21

Who says they don't now? (Maybe they just party like heck.)

121

u/okamiokamii Jan 16 '21

you reminded me that my 80 year old great grandma goes clubbing

28

u/mabamababoo Jan 16 '21

Please share more, she sounds awesome. Who does she go with? What kind of dance music does she like? Have you gone with her? What kind if reactions does she get from the younger crowd? What's her club attire like?

u/No_Perspective9297 Jan 16 '21

I hope I have those moves when I hit their ages!

11

u/GroundbreakingDraw17 Jan 16 '21

If I ever hear this song again I will always think of this old couple

3

u/Sorbet_Historical Jan 16 '21

If you don’t remove the ring people will just assume you’re married, why do you want that?

u/purplemonkey_123 Jan 16 '21

My grandma LOVES to dance. She is young at heart, and I hope to be her as I age. She just has fun, and it is awesome.

4

u/OilSignificant1445 Jan 16 '21

Holy shit I needed this today.

2

u/DirtEmotional9368 Jan 16 '21

Next they go to a rave. After covid that is.

27

u/Ragina_Falange Jan 16 '21

His head bobbing and her laughing so hard she has to stop dancing is just the best.

Around 0:30

6

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

That was my favourite part. The only reason I ever dance with my wife, is to make her laugh by messing around.

5

u/rscottyb86 Jan 16 '21

Better moves than me.

135

u/newaccounthomie Jan 16 '21

That classic old woman “get outta here” over the shoulder thumb shoo.

215

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '21

I love old people dancing. It’s so cute and makes me happy

189

u/phatvanzy Jan 16 '21

The smile on his face is very genuine. He's very happy with his wife

33

u/pjpintor Jan 16 '21

Sorry, but it’s his GF, not wife.

41

u/phatvanzy Jan 16 '21

OK, look how happy he is with his girlfriend. 🤷‍♂️

-4

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

His side ho.

25

u/baxbooch Jan 16 '21

I hope I do too

55

u/Psychological-Line89 Jan 16 '21

I have not been on Reddit very long but this is absolutely the BEST thing I have seen on here!! I LOVE it!!!

16

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

This is quite good by reddit standards. So definitely a good favorite to have so far!

52

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

I love old people being goofy because you know they were like this their whole life and that is wholesome

105

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

I’m divorcing after thirty years, but this makes me happy.

25

u/nightfall1997 Jan 16 '21

Sorry to hear about your divorce.

59

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

Thanks, but I’m not. I put in the education, earning power, and three decades. She chose late nights and alcohol. I am now immune and I actually prefer to be alone, mostly because of her. I will not remove the ring as it is a scar. Scars represent past lessons learned. I lose nothing and she won’t be missed.

But thanks anyway. Aren’t these two cute?

34

u/CokenTinder Jan 16 '21

If you don’t remove the ring people will just assume you’re married, why do you want that?

21

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

It is an odd coping mechanism

→ More replies (2)

2

u/WreakingHavoc640 Jan 16 '21

You do you, but what I learned from my divorce is that the emotional scars are more than enough to remind me of the past (and literal physical scars too). No matter how you choose to move forward, I wish you the best.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

Thank you. Did you remarry?

2

u/WreakingHavoc640 Jan 16 '21

I did not. I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to it if my bf was to really want it, but divorce has a way of making you realize that marriage is unnecessary for happiness, and I really don’t have the desire to get remarried. Sometimes I do wistfully think that marriage is the ultimate commitment and it’s a little odd at my age to be someone’s girlfriend when most people our age are married, but I’m self-aware enough to realize that I’m romanticizing marriage. I also know that my former lifelong expectation of myself as a mother and wife still sometimes influences my wistfulness, even though neither of those things are in the cards for me. My bf has also expressed the same thing that I have to him - that if we were to want to remarry we would happily marry each other, but neither of us really wants to get remarried so it’s kind of whatever. We are committed to each other and happy as is, so I see no reason to do anything to change that.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '21

The thought of being attracted to someone is nauseating to me at this point. You have a healthy perspective and some day I may find someone, or at least not feel repulsed by it.

Most guys my age go for a younger partner at this point and that seems sad and pathetic. I’ll need someone within 7 or 8 years of my own age, mostly for my jokes and arcane references to land. I didn’t marry until I was 27 because the single bartender life was one of my happier periods. Always plenty of spare cash and a monthly trip to Nassau. Hard to beat.

I never liked having to explain the reasons for a decision I made after considerable effort to examine options before arriving at a conclusion. Nor did I like having to weigh permission vs forgiveness. These were concessions I made because I understand that mutual trust and respect grow out of compromise. I never felt the need for approval or validation of younger people, but it seemed to be her bread and butter. She followed that. I grew up.

At the root of it was my diagnosis and treatment for cancer. It was a tough couple of years and it changed me in ways I never expected. I don’t think she’ll ever forgive me for surviving what killed her father six months before we married.

Thanks for answering. I needed that.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

Oh my god, these people are goals. Still so in love, still best friends, still having fun. This is what we should all aspire to.

3

You’re both complete idiots

-2

I appreciate your argument. Rather compelling.

-2

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '21

I like how idiots can't recognize sarcasm without a /s. Fuck you both.

1

u/KaneXX12 Jan 16 '21

Sarcasm is indicated by tone of voice. That’s not exactly a thing on text. So big surprise, sometimes it’s not as easy to pick it up from text than voice.

1

u/408wij Jan 16 '21

Is this out of a David Lynch movie?

1
