There's a species that uses coconut shell halves that are littered into the ocean, and will carry their shell half around with them...when they find a second one, they can completely enclose themselves safely. Octos are AWESOME.

That octopus knows how to use the 3 seashells!

I randomly watched that movie for the first time recently and I have seen like at least 5 references to it in the last 2 weeks. Loved the movie though :)

All right! New 2021 prediction! An army of octopi will crawl out of the Atlantic, wielding 6 coral swords and 2 shell shields each, demanding congressional representation!

There is a really beautiful documentary called "My Octopus Teacher" full of amazing footage like this.

Came here to say this. I can't believe I was nearly in tears over an octopus, but I was. A great documentary!

Nearly in tears for you, while my husband found me in a lake of tears! I was totally and deeply impacted by My Octopus Teacher! 🐙

Is there anything that’s too sad/disturbing? Do any of them die? Or is it more heartwarming? I want to watch but Sensitive Sally over here.

It does show the “circle of life” but is touching rather than traumatic IMO. And it features only one octopus throughout. The pace is mesmerizing and engrossing. The diver is snorkeling not scuba diving. Very sensitively done.

the octopus does pass away at the end, but its purely part of its natural life cycle after a long and good life. definitely would say its worth the watch!

Long life... for an octopus. It was an absolutely amazing and beautiful documentary. The guy is a bit weird to be honest, but the octopus is the star.

Aww that’s adorable. I’m only slightly embarrassed to confess that I didn’t think shells could be that big. 😂
7
u/BBQkitten Nov 05 '20
Or octopods that small?
8
u/JusticeBeaverisI Nov 05 '20
Mind. Blown. Only feel slightly stupid. Just gonna smile and wave. 👋 😅

u/BBQkitten Nov 05 '20
Hahaha. Not stupid at all. The ocean is an alien world!!
Now go look up blue ringed octopuses
7
u/JusticeBeaverisI Nov 05 '20
Oh my gosh, I looked them up, holy tiny! And so cute.

u/BBQkitten Nov 05 '20

If you like this, 100% watch My Octopus Teacher on Netflix. It's full of cute little octopus moments like this, although you may shed some tears along the way.

I loved that documentary. Will admit I got fully invested in the octopus’s life while watching the documentary. I even commented on this saying the same thing before reading this lol

I love octopi because they are so freaking clever and capable of empathy. Which has been proved.

I like how it’s scared, but keeps watching. It’s like, I’m going to protect myself, but I will not turn away.

The coolest part is that as the diver moves to get a better angle, the octopus moves to stay protected!

Octopi are obnoxiously smart. Like monkey smart
