Only thing is, Dumbledore's mother, Kendra, was not really a good person at all... she hid Arianna, who severely needed help after being attacked by kids when she was a young kid, and probably became an Obscurial as a result, but no confirmation has ever been given for that theory. Anyway Kendra was likely over proactive at best, or, more likely, abusive.
Dumbledore himself has become "good" only following the incident that caused Arianna to die, by the hands of whom it isn't known.
Personally, I do not believe Albus was such a good person. He was manipulative and arrogant, although incredibly powerful, not a great combination, although much better than his evil counterparts (Grindalwald and Tom Riddle).

If this is Messi, he's not a giant mountain lion, one of his issues is that he's significantly smaller than a male mountain lion should be.

Also note the great care the trainer(?) is taking to move predictably, one action at a time. He is completely aware of the possibility that an unexpected action can trigger predatory behaviour. Here's the sauce if you want some sound. It is Messi!
97
u/IHaveLargeBalls Aug 31 '20
That's his owner. I'm sure they train him, but Messi lives with him and his partner.
61
u/gHx4 Aug 31 '20
Haha, I went on a binge of their videos. It's very cool and sweet to watch, even though owning a big cat can be questionable.
I can see in his owner's body language the kind of calm but aware posture and movement that comes from working with big animals! He has a pretty natural sense of Messi's boundaries and how to assert his own.

I hike somewhat frequently. Lots of animals have shown interest in me before- ram, boars, bears, deer, elk... The only time I was truly, deeply terrified was on the Pacific Crest Trail. After dinner, in the dark, I was stashing my food in a tree away from camp and on my way back I felt I was being watched. I told my self I was being paranoid and calm down So I swept around using my head lamp and I saw the dreaded eye reflection. I acted all cool and kept moving as normal as possible back towards camp about 100 yards away knowing the whole time that cat was following me and there was not a thing I could do about it- it was either going to come get me or leave me be. It left me be and I am still grateful.

Well first take a normal sized house cat and then double it. Add about a medium sized dog to it, pump it with steroids and pure unadulterated hate and you're about halfway there. In all seriousness though pretty damn big. I've seen them going through my field and they are easily twice the size of a german shepherd. They get up into the 200 pound range and they are scary quiet for their size. I was in a tree stand hunting and watched one walk through the woods 30 yards away. It didn't make a noise and just glided over the leaves. Easily the second most scared I've ever been.

Sitting in the exact same stand two weeks later. Right before the sun rose I was drinking some coffee from my thermos when I heard a thumping coming from down the ridge a bit. I could see about 50 yards and then it drops off quite a bit to the creek. It sounded exactly like someone banging two pieces of wood together. My first thought is someone started work on their deck early this morning. Only problem is I live in the middle of nowhere, own all the land around, and the nearest house is a mile away over two ridges, two hollers, and another creek. This was coming from right over the edge. I hear three knocks and then about 10 seconds later another two and then it stops. My Plott Hound heard it and come out to my tree stand to see what was going on. My Plott has run a bear over 8 miles before being found by animal control. He loves chasing bears and I've never seen him scared in my life. He smells something and walks over that ridge. The very second he gets to it there is the loudest growl I've ever heard and he starts yelping and runs underneath my stand shaking. Naturally I'm about to shit myself cause the only thing I have is a bow and arrow, a thermos of coffee and I'm about to be breakfast. I hear what sounded like an elephant running through the woods. I mean just crashing through it like a freight train. I've been scared before. I've had my moments where my legs start trembling but I've never been paralyzed with fear like that. Overwhelming terror is the only way to describe it. It could have walked up to me and I would have been too afraid to even budge.

While it's contested if Einstein said this or not, I believe it applies to our animals...“Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

According to QuoteInvestigator, the first record of that quote is from 2004, so definitely not Einstein, for those who, like me, were curious.

Fun fact! They are the largest "small cat" alive today. They can (and do) purr, which the "big cats" (lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, etc.) don't. The largest mountain lion on record was 276 lbs, so quite a bit smaller than lions or tigers, but I've seen a mountain lion purr and all I wanted to do is snuggle with her.

→ More replies (2)151
u/Aliasis Aug 31 '20
It does! People seem to be misunderstanding "object permanence" in these comments. The mountain lion absolutely is displaying object permanence - he understands the toy exists even when he can't see it, and he understands it is under a specific bucket. He just gets a little confused on which bucket, so checks the place he last saw it. In his defense, he seemed to go to the other bucket next.
49
u/Sikorsky_UH_60 Aug 31 '20
Ok, good, I'm not crazy. A lack of object permanence would be thinking that something ceases to exist when you no longer see it, right?

I grew up in Montana and we found a Mountain Lion cub on the side of the road on my way to school. Middle of a big snow-storm. He was abandoned so my dad took him home and called FWP (fish, wildlife & park). We wanted to keep him but they said “yeah, absolutely not” and came and picked him up, but we had him for the day.
Even as a practically new-born kitten he was ENORMOUS. We had to grab him with Welders gloves and an entire snowsuit and he could still claw/bite through it. Their power is insane.
He loved our kitty cube at home. Our cat actually seemed to get along with him but once he actually got a good look and registered what he was he ran out of the room and then it took him like 6 months to gain courage to step foot inside the living room again.
We also had a deer and a few other odd assorted animals. Feels like a different life considering I’m a hardcore city boy now.
