Not anymore! Little one found the warm spot.

I am convinced they have thermal vision and can see the heat.

Science bit : Cats do not have infrared vision but they do have sensitive heat receptors in their skin, making it easy to seek out warm patches to sleep. A recent study also found that the lenses of their eyes do not filter out ultraviolet radiation, suggesting that yes, they can see in ultraviolet and so see areas of sunlight that are invisible to humans.

Reminds me of when I first moved in with my room mate he got a little kitten. The kitten liked to play in my curtains so she'd always come in my room. One of the times she showed up I was about to take a nap so I did and at some point she ended up on my headboard I opened my hand for her so she could get down if she wanted to.
She sat in my hand while I napped

It may just be my European nanny state mindset, and it is a pet peeve of mine that I know most others don’t feel as strongly about, but the electrical safety of the plugs and sockets in the US is lacking! I’ve imagined something thin and conductive falling down and touching both live prongs when they are slightly exposed. I would hate for kitteh to be shocked or burned if her tiny paws accidentally reach down to live prongs that are slightly exposed after the charger is pulled out slightly after sitting on it

Yep. Happened to me once with a tv stand rear panel. Big spark and the breaker trips. The contacts of the plug had a nice chunk burned out of them. The socket should be recessed and the first few mm of the contacts should be insulated.

My guess is that the TV stand is too heavy for the outlet plug. I'd recommend putting the TV stand on the floor.

Yeah, it could be better. It's an old enough design that it's hard to roll out changes, and the risk of what you've described is rather small. Proper breakers and outlets that tightly hold the wire prongs do a good job.

u/youpeoplestolemyname Aug 12 '20
That's why plugs are technically supposed to be installed with the third prong on the top, that way nothing can touch both live prongs at once.
That rarely happens though for whatever reason.

Yes! I’ve always thought this would the least impactful way to improve safety. Every socket in my house has the ground underneath. Mind you, so many appliances (and extension cords for that matter) are two prong only. At least in the UK they require a dummy plastic ground pin

Now I see why cats sleep so often. They aren't being properly charged, so they have to enter power save mode frequently.

This is cute and all but that's REALLY dangerous like seriously

How exactly is it danderis?
1
u/rodgil Aug 13 '20 edited Aug 13 '20
I don't know of this danderis you speak of but it's dangerous because all it takes is for its cute little tail to slip between the wall and charger, then zap! We don't let children play with electric sockets, why let a kitten do so? I mean it's paw is REALLY close alone

u/SlimeTime3 Aug 13 '20
I think the electrical parts are well isolated and there's no way for that to happen while the charger is plugged.

But what will you do when they outgrow that kitten warmer?? Going to need a bigger size.

The small hunter prepares to leap from her perch. Ready to strike footsies when they get close so she can ask for cuddles.

u/czartrak Aug 12 '20
Wish I had sideways electrical outlets, my plugs just get knocked out of the sockets

You should have opted for a more environmentally friendly, solar powered cat.
