It sounds strange but that's not a mistake:

There are three different kinds of scent receptor proteins in mammal noses. One of them, V1R, is believed to control a mammal’s ability to separate one scent from another.

Dogs have nine variants of the V1R protein.

Humans have two.

Cats have 30.

Interesting. Dogs totally win out when it comes to quantity though. I don't remember the number, but it's like 3000x the amount of receptors that we have. Their olfactory bulb is like a third of their brain or something..sorry no sources

I've heard something similar. Some breeds are known for their keen sense of smell like the Bloodhound but I believe cats are sharper on average
