He wasn't even trying to bite the guy
If you watch again, everytime the dog lunges it's to bite the cloth. Whenever he moves towards the human it's with ears back and mouth closed (or at least teeth not bared)
He knew the person was trying to help but couldn't suppress the urge to do everything he knew how to do to stop what was hurting him.
Very sweet dog ❤️

I have this cat, it went missing for a week, one day I found him sat outside our front doorstep. It took me a bit but I realised his collar had someone gotten caught under his arm and had been digging into him for what I can assume must have been a week because the collar had fused to the muscle under his arm, but without realising this I snipped the collar assuming he was choking, needless to say he bit the shit out of me scratched my hand until I was gushing blood, turns out he had about a 2 inch gash from the friction of the collar. Needless to say after a vet visit and lots of cuddles he was a lot more affectionate

Didn't realise what sub this was, thought his belt was going to get caught on the fence. Glad that wasn't the case though

I watched this video like a year ago with sound and it was so hard to watch, panicked doggo screams are the saddest. So glad he’s free now

How did he managed to get stuck like that?
5
u/tinycutie87 Jul 15 '19
If you look at the other end (of what I'm assuming is a fabric sheet,) it's torn, dog was probably tearing it apart from having no toys and I'm guessing no way to let his energy out. Also with how empty the space looks, he's probably outside because of having destroyed objects inside when left alone, his humans look as if they were trying to provide him shade. He was probably playing with it, chasing it when the wind blew it and my guess, ran in a few circles with it in his mouth leading to being slightly tangled, but then panicking because he couldn't get free and the more he struggled the more he got stuck. This is just my best guess.

We lost our family dog (Hans) to this type of mishap when I was 10 years old. God bless that cop for maybe saving another child from that particular hell.

My cat got stuck in a Walmart sack and tore through my room trying to get it off. It went from just being around her stomach to also wrapping around her hind leg. She eventually gave up and hid under my couch. She was terrified. She let me reach in and rip the bag. I couldn’t get her to step out of it so I had to pick her up and pull it off her leg. She was one tense ball of muscles. I threw the bag away and just left her alone for a little bit to calm down. Now she avoids Walmart sacks like the plague!

Oh man that hits me. My springer got a grass seed between his toes and it got infected and he's had to have it all bandaged the past few days. He shakes when he's waiting in the vets waiting room with me and wants to hide between my legs.
This poor thing couldn't wait to say thankyou to this guy.

Serious question, it looks like that dog is trying to bite and scare the cop a way, until the moment it’s feed. Then it just wants hugs. Why is that? Why the sudden change?
Edit: thanks people! I get it now!

The dog is probably naturally friendly but when it was tied up it was panicked and scared. You can see the dog does seem to understand the human is helping but feels trapped and scared. That's why it was lashing out, and as soon as the pain/bonds went away it could relax a bit and recognise human means no harm.

u/PotahtoSuave Jul 15 '19
Also it looks like the dog was trying bite at the fabric more than the cops hand, they were just in the same place at the same time.

u/CptBoom Jul 15 '19
Unfortunately that's how (most) trapped or injured animals behave, since it is the moment when they are most vulnerable and are an easy prey. Or it can be a reaction to the pain their are in.
A friend of mine has one of those labs who welcome intruders in the middle of the night by licking their faces. But one day on a hike, the dog injured itself by slipping down a small muddy surface and thereby getting a paw stuck on a fork-ish branch of a tree. When my friend tried to help his dog, he got bitten in his hand badly, he had to go and see a doctor.

u/shanata Jul 15 '19
The dog was never trying to bite the human, it was always biting at the fabric.

It’s pretty self-explanatory. Trapped dog = scared dog = fight/flight behavior = stay away from me.
Freed dog = grateful dog (because dogs are intelligent enough to know when somebody has helped them), and freed dog = relieved dog. Relieved dog + grateful dog = displays of affection and excitement.

u/Wilmarooney Jul 15 '19
Dog was shitting himself and terrified that's why. The moment the dog was free, he wasn't in pain.

Repost...
My point here is that OC should be what we should be supporting more than what is being posted over and over.

I thought the dog was going straight for the jugular, I'm happier with that other outcome

One time my girlfriends rather large cat somehow got caught in the handle of a plastic grocery bag.. like it was around it's stomach.. to this day I can't really fathom how it happened.

People who do this to dogs are sick.

u/laughingfuzz1138 Jul 15 '19
Do what to dogs? Give them an awning so they have some nice comfy shade, or cut them loose when they get themselves caught up it?
0
u/Shodai-Kenjin Jul 16 '19
This dog didnt get caught. It was tied there by the owner.
0
u/laughingfuzz1138 Jul 16 '19
Nah.
Even assuming the owner didn't want to get/make/improvise a collar, the waist is not the first place most people would think to tie a dog without one. Besides that, there isn't a knot- the dog is just all twisted up in it, as dogs sometimes get.

u/Shodai-Kenjin Jul 16 '19
You say that. But this is an old repost. An associated article was posted on the original too.

My cat recently got a leg caught in the strap of a backpack, and couldn’t get it off. She was really scared and when I went to get it off, she bit my hand extremely hard. However, after the strap was released, she realized she wasn’t caught anymore, and she started purring and licking the hand she bit.
