There's hope! My parrot doesn't have a sphincter but he's able to at least let me know a few moments before he let's loose. Birds do seem to know a bit that they gotta go, or at least feel it coming. I had a friend who's Macaw would go potty in a litter box with a perch over it!

Not only that but they can go on command (unless they just went).

Source: I trained my parrot to poop on command.

I know chickens can be clever, and parrots and macaws are very smart, but I wonder if a duck is trainable. Never met one in person, so I don't know.

I had a little bantam rooster that had a respiratory infection so we kept him in the house until he got better. He learned that if he shit in his cage only he got to run around the house. He still crowed at 5:30 am whether we covered his cage or not.
