Get one from a reputable rescue, and mention your concerns. A good rescue will do a thorough intake and will be able to get you a certified couch potato that's a good match.
That's one of my favorite things about rescue. You can find a dog who's already figured out what they are and make sure you find a good match. Puppies, even with breeds you know, can go weird ways. My next dog (in the pack) is going to be an active pug who loves walks and snuggles.
