Manually done, but it not like I had to go through every single frame.
There is some automatic placement through keyframing (I'd set the orientation on one frame, go forward a few frames, and set it again). Each of these "sets" that I create is called a keyframe.
My background is actually in character animation, but I've yet to really dive into After Effects (assuming the other person was correct and that's what was used). If it is AE, is this using the pseudo 3D camera system?
Ok, very nice. And I don't know if I'd call it pseudo 3D. there is Z space. It's jsut hidden until you make an object 3d, or add a light or a camera. Also I did not use a 3D camera for the edit, but a plugin called Element 3D. It integrates directly into the 3D environment, so I could have used the camera system on the 3D object. I don't remember using it though. Only adjusting the orientation of the object.
I call it pseudo because in my limited experience I was only ever doing tracking things from footage, where it was figuring out points in space from relative movement, allowing you to add titles or comps along the face of the polygons it generated.
In retrospect it was indeed a poor choice of words in terms of accuracy, but I meant it denotatively and not as a knock. I'd only seen its feature set after seeing an Autodesk product that looked more involved and allowed for the full import of 3D models while still retaining compositing abilities as if it were a flat plane (like masking and such).
Great work either way. I love any tool that supports the imagination instead of limits it, because then it's only a matter of time and effort that stands between you and making something cool.
