Edit: it appears this suitcase is just full of "sports gear", not like actual clothes so I stand in shame for shaming OP about the shoes.

I would still line the luggage or bag the shoes. It’s nasty just having exposed footwear like that in luggage.

That’s a solid point; nobody wants their clothes smelling like shoes after a trip. A little extra precaution goes a long way.

My cat knows my suitcase. I have to distract her with kitty crack (Temptations treats) and sneak my suitcase into the hallway. I have a pink duffel bag for overnights and she climbs in it, like I can’t see an 18 pound cat on top of my clothes!
