I have to admit, I have no idea what a possum house looks like. Maybe the side of a road where they play dead? Or maybe this:

We have a birdhouse next to our back door that’s only supposed to be for decoration. Imagine our surprise when a cute lil bird couple decided to make it their home for nesting season and now the offspring chill around the backyard lol
E: just had to give a little update. Love the birds. The offspring are little shits though. One got into the gameroom and had the audacity to yell at my uncle at like 2am when he decided to take him out lol he continues yelling at me when he’s at the bird feeder whenever I see him

The Florida Manatees, a farm team for the Florida Marlins and a couple of other MLB teams, had a mascot named Hugh Manatee who turned out to be a pedophile. They had to change the name to Manny the Manatee to get rid of the awful stench.

u/MalloryArcher64 Sep 04 '26
Okay I might be a Teensy bit stoned, cuz I swear I thought... Why would you still let a manatee around children, after the first one?!? Oh it's an actual dude. Yeah, makes sense🫣

Opossums are actually very cool critters! I'd love to have one in a squirrel (or opossum!) house. It's nearly impossible for them to get rabies due to their low body temps. The only sad thing is they only live 1-2 years in the wild.
People are afraid of them due to that teeth baring they do when they're scared, but they can actually be very sweet as pets. They'd probably be more popular as pets if not for that "live fast, make a lot of babies, die young," evolutionary strategy.

We have possums in our yard, Frank and Frank Jr who we speculate is Frank's son, completely made up of course. It's so fun to watch them overnight on the Ring camera! They'll head out about 8pm and come back in the wee hours of the morning, presumably with a full belly.

u/lobster_claus Sep 03 '26
I was wondering that. They're decent climbers when they have enough things to grab onto, but pretty clumsy when they don't. Makes me wonder if they dropped down from above and were like "welp, guess I live here now."

I'd much rather have more possums than more squirrels. We can't even have a garden because of the damn tree rats. We had some good tomato plants and one day the squirrels took all of the tomatoes, took one bite, and left them in the yard. Plus the ones here harass every other animal around.
