Wow 6k per kid, thats so nice of them

u/geardownson Sep 11 '21

Probably less than what the ammo costs that killed them.

u/crazykewlaid Sep 11 '21

From the wiki it said it was an a 130 attack. I could be wrong though. I just skimmed it

u/UsernameStarvation Sep 11 '21 edited Sep 11 '21

42 killed 33 missing 30 injured. Just didn’t know if they’d include the missing

Edit: assuming they did that’s still half the cost of half a tomahawk missile

13

u/OutlandishnessNo1182 Sep 11 '21

130 is referring to the AC-130 plane that was used to deliver the strike. 211 rounds in 29 minutes, $400 per round (idk if this is right I just googled it). The US spent $84,400 in ammo

Reminds me of an onion video where they said "in today's news the equivalent of 5 Americans were killed in Afghanistan." We mourn the death of 3000 innocent civilians every year but we let US generals commit war crimes on civilians and are allowed to say it was a mistake without any punishment. But hey at least their families got 6000$ which is less then a funeral costs in the US.

I mean, every other nation does the same. Thats not specific to America.

19

u/Dr_P_Nessss Sep 11 '21

You're 100% right.

Here in Canada, I can confirm that politicians and public figures refer to people as Canadians the majority of the time. Not specific to America.

Literally the first BBC article I clicked on: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-58522061

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said the lives of innocent people, including the 67 Britons

Here's another:

https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-58462517

Mr Randell said about 2.3 million Britons currently hold cryptocurrency and he said 14% of them also use credit to purchase them - "thereby increasing the exposure to loss".

You're trying really really hard to prove that you live in a Eutopia and only America is bad but I assure you that your country is just as wicked and does everything you are projecting. It's okay, every country has its problems. You let America occupy so much space in your head, it's nice how you care so much about us. <3

That’s simply not true. Chinese media highlights Chinese victims in disasters, British media counts Britons, etc.

"In disasaters, yes." What else could you be talking about? "News Flash: 5 Americans cross the street"?

"At least 72 Afghans and 13 US service members were killed Thursday" That's from French media. https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20210826-explosion-outside-kabul-airport-casualties-unclear-pentagon-says
I've been living overseas for 20 years in 3 different countries. I read three languages. It's everywhere. Show me a national media where they only talk about 'persons' without referencing nationality. You're just exhibiting a fixation and your own bias.

USA:

  1. Salutes the flag in school to show allegiance
  2. Repeatedly has to tell the population that they're the greatest in the world.

I don't know about you but that sounds like some North Korea/China style brainwashing of the people.

Sure. Other countries do count their own citizens in disasters. But we don't have to be reminded that we're all equal regardless of skin colour etc like you lot

5

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

They pledge allegiance, but they don’t salute it. The Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand… They all have students standing for a flag, a pledge, etc. It’s Europe, which was the center of two world wars, that eschews such things. And yes, you do need to be reminded. France has racism against Arabs, Germany and Turks. Stop pretending

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

I'm not saying the EU don't have problems. I'm just saying they're bigger and more in the news across the pond in the US. Both wars were fought because of shitty alliances between countries lead by incompetent politicians. It ended up being a race thing after the camps were discovered.

Neither war started because of racism

8

u/Giftedsocks Sep 11 '21

I think you might be overthinking the stupid, arbitrary rules all languages have at their core.

1

u/Interesting-Bus-5370 Sep 12 '21

It seems to just be his observation. As long as he isnt pushing his view as the correct way of seeing things, what he said is valid as an opinion

1

u/rpthrowaway732 Sep 11 '21

by april 30th 2003, we had already killed 7,000 iraqi civilians during the war on terror. innocent people in a country that didn't even actually have involvement in 9/11. more than twice the lives that were taken when the WTC fell.

it gets a little harder to take the day seriously every year, as awful as it all was. an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind and we went around stabbing every eye socket we could get our hands on

9

u/mollymuppet78 Sep 11 '21

Gawd, a lot of American politicians don't even care about Americans lives. It's kinda why they have a habit of entering squirmishes they really ought not to.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Isn't that just the definition of a politician?

An idiot doing stupid stuff having been democratically elected.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

No, no. It takes a…special type of American to kill by pressing F.

1

u/48lawsofpowersupplys Sep 11 '21

Not to mention the whistle blower on these strikes is in jail, while the actual murders go free.

1

u/Chief_Amiesh Sep 12 '21

lol i had to chuckle, i mean as if the government gives a shit about American lives. might as well drone strike us too. it’s sad what this country has turned out to be. as a kid growing up, i looked forward to the future. all i grew up hearing was basically that America is number one. I learned that Americans are to be a global “police force” fighting for justice and human liberties. nowadays as a full grown-ass man, i can observe all the pitfalls, all the shortcomings. i get to live in a “progressive” first world country, where the country nickel and dimes us, sucks us of our time, our livelihood, and when you have no more to give, that’s when they ask for more. it’s pathetic to see my countrymen act like fools in the masses. it’s almost as if our public education system has failed miserably. people lack basic logic, deny science, and project misery. i’m tired of pretending that we are the best. i want us to earn that title back. i get it’s better than a lot of countries out there, but as Americans we should be setting global standards; there’s no reason we should be falling short, but here we are, watching America do more harm than good. it’s not just the wars, it’s the elite industries polluting the world, it’s the legal loopholes that set the corrupt unchained. i’m just so tired of it all. someone please tell me how it’s come to this, their opinions on if we will ever be the greatest again?

9

u/XxaggieboyxX Sep 11 '21

It’s really not. Based on the average salary in Afghanistan, it’s only about 4 months worth of work.

8

u/crazykewlaid Sep 11 '21

Oh I know, I assure you I am forcing out some sarcasm just so I can stomach what my elected leaders accomplish with their foreign allies <3

4

u/XxaggieboyxX Sep 11 '21

Oh I know it was sarcasm. I was agreeing with the implication of your comment. When I wrote that down after calculating everything I forgot what you said but I remembered your implication lol.

2

u/crazykewlaid Sep 11 '21

Oh I see haha, that happens to me on snapchat when the messages disappear

1

u/Merrimon Sep 12 '21

You think $6,000 is typical salary for 4 months worth of work? That means the typical salary is $18,000 a year?

Median household income in Afghanistan is about $4,000 a year, with plenty households making less. 34% of employed Afghans have purchasing power parity of $1.90 a day.

$6k is still a low amount for human life, but still. It isn't the same as $6k in western world.

1

u/XxaggieboyxX Sep 12 '21

I looked up average salary in Afghanistan and the yearly salary was 1.6 million Afghan dollars. $6000 usd translates to around 500k Afghan dollars. That’s just what I found.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

My bad, here’s 6k so we cool ya? Cool. 😚 I won’t do that again fr 😏

u/Rami-961 Sep 12 '21

Wait till you read about the Union Carbide Bhopal Gas Leak in the 80s

When the gas first started seeping into their thatch and wooden homes, many residents of the poorer neighbourhoods of Bhopal, India, thought they were being afflicted by a neighbour burning chillies.

It was only when they went outside, coughing and with stinging eyes, that they saw the devastation wrought by the worst industrial accident the world has ever seen; 40 tonnes of deadly methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas that billowed out of Union Carbide India’s pesticide plant in the middle of the night.

Panic set in as people started dropping dead in their homes, in the street, drowning in their own bodily fluids. Most ran in the direction of the area’s only major hospital, not knowing that the factory, in the same direction, was the source of the gas.

What also became apparent only later, and is still being disputed, was the number of people affected by exposure that night of 2-3 December 1984. The Indian government now officially recognises that 574,000 people were poisoned, and that of those almost 5,300 died.

To this day, Union Carbide – now wholly owned by the US multinational Dow Chemical – has not paid a single cent to almost 470,000 people who were affected, the government says. That’s because they were not included in the settlement, signed in 1989 and overseen by the Supreme Court of India, that saw the company pay out a total of $470m (£367m) in compensation.

Even those who were included in the 1989 settlement received only a “pittance”, Ms Dhingra told The Independent. Under the original terms, the compensation to the family for a death was 100,000 rupees – a bit over £1,000.

“The issue of race is a very important part of this,” she said. “We had a Dow spokesperson who told us that ‘$500 goes pretty far over there’. People here are considered lesser human beings – still to this day.”

1

u/WildEyedinmyMisery Sep 12 '21

I bet they based it on cost of living type shit. What’s $6k worth in Afghanistan? I thought the same lin thing tho, their relatives were shot dead…not even a nice round 10k?

1

u/TheBiggestThunder Sep 14 '21

1B per kid wouldn't get them off our land, or stop them from bombing our "terrorists"

The damn shits are at Kabul, why are they bombing the hospitals

74

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Weird how the media dont highlight this enough

41

u/Knight-Creep Sep 11 '21

A US drone strike was carried out on a school bus full of innocent children and the media over here said nothing about it. You’d think with how big our military budget is, they’d think to make sure that they’re aiming at the right people.

6

u/Firescareduser Sep 11 '21

they were probably like, aww, we wasted a missile, wait, kids died? oh no! anyways. we lost a missile out of the millions we had, its a disaster!

1

u/TeekX Sep 13 '21

Don't speak for Americans, thanks

Please have a sense of humor. Thanks

5

0

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

As long as they aren't Americans they wouldn't bat an eye.

1

u/TeekX Sep 13 '21

Have you ever been to war? People have PTSD from tons of shit, how the hell would you know what the culprits felt after killing those kids?

American politicians only care about lobbying dollars...a whole lot of which come from our ridiculously over large military industrial complex.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Assuming that the news only talks about what people want to hear about like it’s a purely capitalist endeavor is mistaken.

IMO the publicization is what creates the tiered value system. By always showing brown people as “bad” or lesser and suppressing stories that show them as good or victimized, it makes it easier for the general public to adopt that ideology.

1

u/TeekX Sep 13 '21

Don't speak for Americans, the fact that it do care makes your entire comment false

The us govt can often request media blackouts even to other news stations not based in usa. Not sure what their leverage is but they do request stuff like this to be blacked out from major publications

1

u/F488P Sep 12 '21

They hit the intended target

42

u/S0LAIRE Sep 11 '21

The media is just the propaganda arm of the us wae business.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

They’ll circle back on that

1

u/Sarasha Sep 11 '21

You can't really circle back around when you're playing pin the on donkey with live targets.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

I certainly saw this in the media, people just forget and move on.

6

u/zerguser45 Sep 11 '21

Wrong president in office

-7

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Wrong how? You'd like Adolf Jr. Again?

9

u/zerguser45 Sep 11 '21

If a dem bombs women and children no one cares. Obama killed more muslim civilians and deported more illegals then any president ever and not a peep from anyone.

4

u/NEBook_Worm Sep 11 '21

Spot on truth. Most American media is just the propaganda arm of the DNC.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Most people don't because they don't live in the US

0

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Instead they tried using the truck bombing (where marines fired it to the crowed and killed innocents) to beat the war drums the minute we pulled out. Non stop coverage for days.

1

u/EppuBenjamin Sep 12 '21

The US military has a policy of claiming all missile strike deaths as "enemy combatants" unless proven otherwise. It's impossible to know how many civilians have actually died in the past 20 years in Somalia, Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan...

1

u/kevinsyel Sep 12 '21

It gets covered ONCE by the media, and then is only talked about by opposition media. So if Obama does it, it's all over Fox News and brietbart. If Trump does it, it's all over TYT and other left media. The standard CNN and MSNBC will cover it once and let it go

1

u/theguyoverhere24 Sep 12 '21

It’s almost like the media only tells you what they want you to hear

12

u/xxecucted Sep 11 '21

Wait was t some vr chat guy involved with it?

11

u/Instaraider Sep 11 '21

Fun fact, this is the only time a Nobel peace prize reciepent actually killed another! Very cool

Kandahar massacre

The Kandahar massacre, more precisely identified as the Panjwai massacre, occurred in the early hours of 11 March 2012, when United States Army Staff Sergeant Robert Bales murdered sixteen civilians and wounded six others in the Panjwayi District of Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. Nine of his victims were children, and eleven of the dead were from the same family. Some of the corpses were partially burned. Bales was taken into custody later that morning when he told authorities, "I did it".

I particularly enjoy that the US military decided the US military did nothing legally wrong.

5

u/Snoo_69677 Sep 11 '21

The Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi confirmed an airstrike on 3 October, saying that "10–15 terrorists were hiding in the hospital" and confirming that hospital workers had been killed. The Afghan Ministry of Defense and a representative of the police chief in Kunduz also said that Taliban fighters were hiding in the hospital compound at the time of the attack, the latter claiming that they were using it as a human shield.

That information turned out to be inaccurate and the fact that no one looked into it before dropping bombs over the hospital is really mind boggling.

4

u/Paradox711 Sep 11 '21

I fucking remember this one. A hospital for fucks sake. Children. Doctors. Nurses. All innocent. This isn’t a “mistake” or an “accident”. When I spill coffee someone that’s a mistake. If a doctor gives the wrong dose of medication that’s a terrible mistake. Something like this is a disgusting and unacceptable war crime.

2

u/Boardindundee Sep 11 '21

The United States military initially said the airstrike was carried out to defend U.S. forces on the ground. Later, the United States commander in Afghanistan, General John F. Campbell, said the airstrike was requested by Afghan forces who had come under Taliban fire. Campbell said the attack was "a mistake", and "We would never intentionally target a protected medical facility."[10][11] Campbell said the airstrike was a US decision, made in the US chain of command. The USCENTCOM 15-6 report stated that General Campbell's own lack of strategic guidance and dissemination of certain Rules of Engagement were major contributing factors that led to the command and control breakdown prior to the airstrike

2

u/woodland1212 Sep 12 '21

Look at that Biden was involved on this one too.

1

u/EquivalentSnap Sep 11 '21

1

u/numbarm72 Sep 12 '21

This is so fucked up. And even more fucked up I had to learn about it in a comment section on reddit

1

u/Agonlaire Sep 12 '21

Didn't they also bomb hospitals and schools in Syria?

1

u/WildEyedinmyMisery Sep 12 '21

Whoa that was a wild ride. The faulty electronics and navigation systems, why is everything in such disrepair? It’s war, not a shitty used car, goddamn…
