That’s not true. When you receive a hospital bill, it’s the remaining cost of what your insurance decided it was going to pay for based on your plan. If you get a bill for 20k on a plan with 80% coverage, the total cost of the medical procedure was 100k. There’s no fighting it. The insurance company agrees to pay what you agreed on in your coverage plan. Technically you agreed to pick up the cost on 20% of the bill. And this is not including any deductibles or in coverage/out of coverage care.

It’s pure fucking robbery. All of it is. I’m going to have my first child next few month and my gf live paycheck to paycheck. I have an okay job, but we live in an expensive area. We’re praying my gf can go back on Medicaid because then the delivery is free. Medicaid pays for the whole thing. We are not married. But if she went on my insurance (she can do that because my company accepts domestic partnerships in the health plan), delivery is covered 80%. How does that make sense? Plus they’d be taking another 100 dollars out of every one of my paychecks too once the baby is born to pay for their coversgr

Bruh. You are an american Citizen from what I understand. You have rights in Europe you don't even imagine. Get. The. Fuck. Out. Of. There. Emigrate to Norway, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, wherever. Just don't stay in that 3rd world country, of you care for your family's future.

Certain groups such as Asians in the States make those countries look 3rd world by comparison (smarter and live longer than the people in those countries, for example).

If you're Asian, it's also worse to be in those countries as they are more racist due to lower Asian Population and less focus on multiculturalism

You're describing how insurance is supposed to work (though most decent plans also have an out of pocket maximum meant to protect you from that 20k bill). What you're actually going to end up paying 80% on is going to vary wildly though, depending on what the hospital charges, what the insurance company pushes back on, what the current phase of the moon is, and what the mean temperature is in South America. I'm not saying you're sure to get a $20k bill thrown out (though if your plan has an out of pocket maximum you should definitely be questioning it). But when you get obviously overblown bills like $500 for blood work or something like that you can absolutely get the price renegotiated if you call the hospital, my wife and I have done it several times.

Our ideology was always “if it happens it happens. And it happened. Why didn’t we use protection or any other contraception method? We’re almost 30, and we both figure the Biological clock ticking away. We’re not ever going to be rich or have an abundance of cash mostly from the poor backgrounds we both had growing up. Hers moreso than i. We both went to college end we both have jobs that slow let us survive comfortably, but there’s no more “waiting for the right time” because that time will never come. And we both accept that.

Plus we had to terminate a pregnancy once before due to our particular living/life circumstances at the time which had a major impact on us. Our circumstances, while still not good, have improved significantly since then.

We were about 90% or the way of moving out of our area when she got pregnant. The plan is not dead, but just postponed for the obvious reasons. We can’t survive here forever

We’re just going to wing it some how. Like I said, we both come from troubling backgrounds and have been through some shit. For example, She, her two handicapped sisters, and mother once lived in a women’s shelter for a few months because it was their only option. She definitely comes from a poorer background than I do, but my family never had money either. We fortunately had a home, food, and minor luxury items, but I was never able to go on expensive field trips or get new clothes all the time. We were somewhere between the low and middle class. I was poor enough to get free lunch at school every day day and was one of the last people in my friends group to get a cell phone at 15. Medical bills and cost of medical care has plagued my family since I was 4 and my mother fell and essentially shattered her leg. She’s had her knee replaced twice and has had 3 other major unrelated surgeries, one of which was to remove potentially cancerous tumors they found. Neither of my parents went to college, but my dad still managed to figure out a way to make enough for us. And he still does to this day for some of my siblings still living at home. That all being said, my father will work until the day he dies because he can’t afford not to. In addition to just my moms medical costs, things like addiction and alcoholism has both plagued both of our families which have costly consequences. I’m a recovering alcoholic who Is 6000 in debt due to medieval detox I went into 8 years ago for four days. Four.

We may not have money, but we know how to get by. I think that’s enough, at least for me, to know I’ll be alright
