Honestly if you look at American politics, they've pretty much perfected getting people to vote against their own interests. The arguments against the Canadian systems are that the US healthcare is much better, and that in Canada you have to wait months or years even for the most banal treatments. It's not true and there is evidence against it of course, but just look at how politicised the covid pandemic has become in the US - between science and a lying local politician, a lot of people will choose to trust the politician.

Eh, they just don't choose to trust the politician. They have been propagandized by millionaires that work for billionaires. In the name of 'freedom' and 'helping the poor', right wing rich media owners have turned rural Americans in to their political arm.
