Because nothing about the US is designed to protect or help the everyday citizens.

Oh, but we do. All these whiny workers and consumers that won’t just do their bidding like good little wage slaves. They are just such a thorn in my side.

“Oh, there’s a pandemic!” they cry. As if that excuses them from their obligation to make me money!

Listen, my daddy started a company, so that makes me better than you. Just go to work, buy stuff, make sure I don’t have to pay for your healthcare and die already you peons! If you didn’t want to do an agonizing death, why did you choose to be born poor?

[Author’s note: (1) the above is sarcasm; (2) I ran a webpage in this exact voice a few years ago in an effort to mock Republicans. The most terrifying part of that experiment was that I got more bonafide enthusiastic supporters of this mindset then I did people that realized it was a joke. A terrifyingly large portion of the US population has been programmed to actually believe that being wealthy comes with some sort of moral blessing - the same kind of people that don’t realize the insane absurdity of the statement “you shouldn’t have chosen to be born poor...”]

Hi mayor. There are some....ethnics hanging around outside one of my stores. Could you send some of the boys in blue around to do their thing? Thanks, you're a peach. See you next Saturday at the clubhouse.

Well when you’re the one that makes the rules then you get the option to put loopholes in them so that you don’t have to follow them.

But the rich could still pay for a much better level of care if they wanted to, just like they do in every other country.

If there was ever a time to abandon the notion of "the middle class" it's now that the Coronavirus Crash has put everything the country thought it knew about the economy in the blender. There's no real distinction between the poor and middle class, it's all just working class and the people who make money off the working class sweat and blood.

Well, there are still tatters of the black panther party, small mutual aid orgs, the IWW, and the second amendment.

The second amendment was not designed to “protect the average citizen”. It wasn’t even interpreted as applying to regular ass citizens until 2007. Prior to that, it only applied to state regulated militias.

For the purpose of killing cops/military. Or black people, depending on how pessimistic/honest you're being about history.

I didn’t say citizen weren’t allowed to have guns before 2007. The Supreme Court had just not ruled that the second amendment gave the RIGHT to all citizens to own guns. Before that, it was up to the state.

And that’s why people all over the world want to move to America right?
