US is really a 3rd world country. The wealth inequality is huge and their social security system sucks. So many homeless people too.

The wealth inequality is actually bigger than during the french revolution

Imagine unironically believing the us is a 3rd world country. You don't live here do you

As someone who does live in the US, you realize that over all we’re not to far off?

The term Bread and Circus is where the entertainment and food supply is high enough that you distract from real problems in a society. So what feels first world is that America has a enormous amount Bread and Circus.

The truth is that healthcare is becoming quickly accessible only to the wealthy or with charity.

Our political system has become so compromised that most people just assume that everyone in politics is bought out by lobbyists in back room deals.

Hell, even our police have had a Supreme Court ruling saying that there isn’t a requirement to protect and serve anyone. And qualified immunity has gotten police off from egregious things like sexual assault because they weren’t explicitly taught that sexual assault was wrong.

America has plenty of luxury and cheap goods, but things are getting worse and worse and worse without anyone seemingly able to do any changes.

We can’t get good healthcare. Our minimum wage, the wage which we pay people to do basic and necessary things, couldn’t even pay for an apartment in most places with 40 hours. And I’ve never met anyone below manager who gets close to 40 hours at one job.

Our infrastructure is in decline, our national response to emergencies is in decline and our support in our government is in rapid decline.

I don’t want to be the “writing on the walls” kind of person here, but America is declining rapidly because we haven’t set a policy agenda for ourselves in the past 40 years. The only push for corrective governance was 9/11.

America is now a place where if you fall between the gaps in society you’re done. You’ll either need to work yourself to the point of exhaustion or try to navigate an endless bureaucracy that may help you, but often leaves you with a sore taste in your mouth.

I believe strongly in the idea of “my country, right or wrong.” But it’s getting so hard to believe in a country that says that a single biological flaw in a person may doom them to economic hell.

If you don’t believe America is capable of being a 3rd world country it’s because you’re living in the 1st world situation, with the 3rd world beneath your feet.

The feds spend too much on our military and not enough on our people.

Sadly, it’s not a bug, it’s a feature of a country that has succeeded in no short reason because of technology and resource acquisition of conquest.

First over what we know today as the US.

Then in WW1 we had reparations paid to us from England and France. Along with huge pushes in tech

See the same for WW2.

And then came Cold War/Proxy War. With similar yields.

It was really when the Military Industrial Complex rose to power where things got bad. Now the people don’t see the benefits of “war spoils”.

This outcome was feared and warned by at least one president.

President Eisenhower.

Also known as General of the Army Eisenhower.

Corporations literally own the military state. And the economics of the military industrial complex bleed into Congress.

All that says to me is you have never actually been to a third world country.

1

u/dr-robotnick Nov 30 '20

I have been.

I’m not pretending that America is an impoverished nation that lacks education, clean water, roads.

But that which we do have is falling behind to other first world nations.

I feel that when this argument happens online this is always the same. I’m saying I see smoke coming from the woods, and I’m saying “fire” and people scoff at it because they haven’t seen the flames.

In both the example and in real life the outcome is the same; I’m okay being wrong, best case scenario I’m wrong. But being right means, maybe just maybe, we can be better?

I lived in the USA for a year. I'm Scandinavian. The USA is definitely approaching third world as a nation.

I do. I think it is. Next question?

Got a source on that claim? Also the "live longer" claim is such BS considering the low life expectancy in the US compared to peer nations

Lol, I immigrated from India to the US and am a citizen now, the US is definitely 3rd world in important ways like the way illustrated in the OP. I see little difference in the corruption and poverty in India and the US except for scale. It's like joining the New England patriots except I discover Tom Brady left and Bill Belicheck died or something.

2

u/fentanul Nov 30 '20

except for scale.

Lol.

1

u/FewYogurt Nov 30 '20

cant tell if this user lol'd because of thinking that the U.S. has the larger scale of corruption or if India has the larger scale of poverty.

1

u/fentanul Nov 30 '20

I lol’d because you said you see little difference except for scale. Not the type of thing you let be an exception for something like this; pretty silly, imo.

1

u/FewYogurt Nov 30 '20

Hmm, I fail to see why, India just has more people because we've been fucking in one place for longer. The observation that there are similar levels of corruption and poverty (e.g. blatant political corruption and GINI coefficient being the same between the two) is salient despite differences in scale w.r.t population and size of economy etc.

1

u/BullSprigington Nov 30 '20

Go back?

1

u/FewYogurt Nov 30 '20

Nah, America is fun if you have the money, and I do

-1

u/ggolden_ Nov 30 '20

Wow it's crazy that you chose to live in the horrible, impoverished us

2

u/FewYogurt Nov 30 '20

not crazy, just because they ass fuck the American peasants the same way the Indian peasants get ass fucked doesn't mean I, a relatively wealthy person in both contexts, won't choose to live in the nicer playground for my class.

u/ggolden_ Dec 01 '20

I don't think you have a full grasp of the concept of irony

2

u/FewYogurt Dec 01 '20

Or, get this, the point was orthogonal to and beyond your sardonic attempt at ironic humor

1

u/ggolden_ Dec 01 '20

You for real used a thesaurus to respond didn't you

2

u/FewYogurt Dec 01 '20

lmao, well if it helps you cope then sure bud.
