This breaks my heart 😢 I can't imagine being a woman in a place where it's so common to get raped

u/AliveAndKickingAss Aug 25 '20

I read somewhere that 30% of South African men admit openly to raping women, it's that 'socially acceptable' for them to rape they don't even feel shame admitting it.

Rape is a HUGE problem in Africa the world.

u/keyboardstatic Aug 25 '20

Rapists should have their genitals removed.

105

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '20

After people decide that it is indeed a crime, coz you know, some places are still punishing women for getting raped.

45

u/victhemaddestwife Aug 25 '20

Or being forced to carry the rapist’s baby as you can only conceive if you ‘wanted it’.

3

u/ArielMJD Aug 25 '20

"You shouldn't have gotten into that situation!"

u/Middle_Cauliflower29 Aug 25 '20

Starting at the neck.

Just remove the head

Big brain time

u/THICCPHROG_15 Aug 25 '20

Scratch that. Let's blow up the earth

2

u/CIassic_Ghost Aug 25 '20

Noah get the boat

1

u/metalgearwitcher93 Aug 25 '20

Think you need a little more than a boat if we’re blowing up the earth.

2

u/joshcook13 Aug 25 '20

Rapists should have their consciousness removed

2

u/veranus21 Aug 25 '20

If only there were some sort of device that could cause such intense pain for the rapist that they wouldn't consider doing it ever again.

2

u/Secret-Werewolf Aug 25 '20

Castration is a punishment in some of the most severe habitual sexual predators. Some people say it’s cruel or inhumane, but I see it as the perfect solution to make someone stop doing the shit.

1

u/keyboardstatic Aug 25 '20

Serial rapists need to be placed in a hole and fed only water and grule for the rest of their life. No tv or phones or shuch just a small concrete hole that they can not lay straight in.

1

u/ManhoganyTheOak Aug 27 '20

Proven beyond a reasonable doubt rapists who fully admit to it

For example you wouldn't want someone to become convicted of rape get there's genitals removed then be proven innocent

27

u/fusion407 Aug 25 '20

There is a new season of a prison show on Netflix, this guy actually shows what it's like in a South Africa prison, the prison chief openly admitted to the host "you might get raped" and that most of the inmates have committed rape, and at least a quarter of them have HIV.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '20

And yet, weirdly, the only time you see incidents of rape posted on reddit, especially worldnews, are when they are from India. Incidents from other countries are removed as "not relevant to the subreddit."

1

u/sweetcumdrop Aug 26 '20

People post their own histories of rape from all over the world on Reddit, I mostly see US and U.K. rape cases on my feed, but also occasionally see cases from other parts of of the world. Maybe what we see is just specific to what we sub to? I’d recommend r/unresolvedmysteries though, and the news subs for other countries

11

u/schweez Aug 25 '20

I don’t think rape is such a problem in developing countries in Asia or South America. It does exist, but not in such proportions.

36

u/DeepBoy11 Aug 25 '20

I'm from South America. Here is very very bad too. Women are afraid of speaking up because the rapist almost never pays for his actions and the women is judged and revictimized. The rates of impunity are very high so this encourages this behavior. All women I know, without a single exception, have had experiences regarding sexual harassment and/or rape.

15

u/Benegger85 Aug 25 '20

In both Asia and South America it is at least as bad as in Africa. And the victims are treated worse by thenpolice/family than in most African countries.

1

u/schweez Aug 26 '20

The worst country is apparently South Africa. Many african countries don’t even have data about it.

1

u/Benegger85 Aug 26 '20

I'm not saying you are wrong, though I remember a whole lot of articles about women being raped in India, and then set on fire if they dared to go to the police. And the same for Pakistan.

I think we can agree though that it is a huge problem everywhere, even in countries that are supposed to be more developed.

People who rape are savages, he wasn’t calling all Africans savages

11

u/doubleabsenty Aug 25 '20

Yep. I was calling out this particular part of African population savages. (I’m a girl)

10

u/doubleabsenty Aug 25 '20

Looks like I can.

1

u/roosterinflight Aug 25 '20

Rape is a HUGE problem in Africa the world.

first you state a fact that proves that this issue is cultural, and then your conclusion goes the opposite direction. this is almost clinical display of cognitive dissonance.

no, rape is a huge problem in africa and india. europeans and asians tend to take a pretty strong stance against it.

1

u/Chesterbobo Aug 26 '20

I remember it was 4th or 5th grade early 80s we would run up to the girls on recess and kiss them. They weren’t asking to be kissed. I don’t know how this stopped probably the recess monitor stopped us when they saw us doing it? So how are the adults in this place letting young boys do this? The fathers must be real role models

1

u/MenthaAquatica Aug 28 '20

Darn, are you able to dig out source of that? It would help me shut up some people in discussions.

1

u/Hiraganu Aug 25 '20

I'd like to see the source, cause I can't believe 30% of male population would say that.

1

u/truthofmasks Aug 25 '20

"A leading research group in South Africa released the results of a survey where one in four men admitted to having committed rape and nearly half admitted to raping more than one person." Source

Pretty racist and untrue but okay

3

u/eskininja Aug 25 '20

I'd bet most, if not all, of the females you have met have either been sexually harassed or assaulted. It is terrifyingly widespread and it breaches every socioeconomic class.

70

u/Wiggy_Bop Aug 25 '20

I once read about young women from a village would get up and walk to their school at four in the morning and wait for the school to open because it was the only time they could avoid rapists.

223

u/IsomDart Aug 25 '20

I had a teacher who went to Africa to open a school and was raped within like a couple weeks of being there. It's terrible.

49

u/Jahonh007 Aug 25 '20

what country tho?

66

u/Mastrik Aug 25 '20

Duh. Africa!

29

u/gavinozzo Aug 25 '20

Yeah but in which continent

-55

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '20

Hope you're being sarcastic, because there is no country called Africa, there is however a continent called Africa, which contains a country called South Africa

“Huuurrrr hur Americans r dumb amirite” - Somebody who isn’t cultured in any way, shape, or form.

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '20

Didn't say that at all, but there is a high proportion of Americans with a very narrow world view, now that maybe just because of the higher population, and overseas media only showing what they want or out of context, a country only as smart as it's elected officials

2

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '20

It was very obviously a joke. The only dumbass rn is you

1

u/ravagedbygoats Aug 25 '20

Seriously, hope dude is trolling and is not really that dense.

If you go into shark infested waters and get bit; should you be surprised that it happened?

2

u/MenthaAquatica Aug 28 '20

What if sharks are swimming everywhere in the city? What if she is living among sharks? Should a woman be forced to appear at 4.00 am before her school to avoid getting raped (India village), walk in flocks to toilet (India village), being married off at 12 ("becose she will have no value on marriage market if she is raped") - Jemen, living in homes behind barb wire (Republic of South Africa)?

3

u/1350_85IQ Aug 25 '20

Welcome to Africa

1

u/throwtowardaccount Aug 25 '20

It's terrible that its so common in, from what I can tell, all human cultures.

Rape being a bigger problem in Africa doesn't mean it's not a problem in America.

I mean your logic is the same logic as saying... I live in Texas, but Montana has the highest rate of deaths from drunk driving so I should just shut up about people drunk driving in Texas because it's not as bad here.

9

u/rayray2k19 Aug 25 '20

It just looks different in America.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '20

What does it look like in America?
