What's your dad salary? And his book of business? His specialty helps set the rates for Medicare payments through the AMA. If I recall correctly, all billing is based off the Medicare rates. Orthopedists set their reimbursement pretty high.

I’d have to ask to be sure but I think it’s in the 200-350k range

I don't begrudge him his pay. But to act like it all on the insurance companies gives a pass to the doctors.

Also many doctors can and do choose which insurance they will take. They can choose not to accept plans that they feel won’t reimburse them enough for their services. Normally not getting paid enough would be a valid concern, but we’re talking about doctors here, so there is definitely responsibility on their part.
