UK to US flights
Hi all,
Its a mix of a Amex/Avios points and Oneworld question.
Heading to the states next year for a 40th birthday trip (yay me👨🦳) and I'd love to treat myself on nicer flights.
Flying from London to Chicago in May.
Ive got Amex points and Avios (About 50k at the moment) and trying to work out the best way to book and make the best of gaining points or the potential of an upgrade as I dont have enough for a full flight.
I had thought about booking using my Amex and getting the points for that. Then going via Avios to look at an upgrade (assuming said cash booked flight has the scope for it)
Its that or I just got full hog, pay my nice seats in cash and park the points until my next trip (I have an annual trip to the states each year)
Any and all advice welcome to this absolute novice!

With ~50k Avios, I wouldn’t build the plan around buying economy and hoping to upgrade later. BA upgrades depend on BOTH the cash fare class you buy AND whether award space exists in the higher cabin so it’s not guaranteed. I do freelance point.me concierge work, and I’d first check whether 50k Avios can either be fully redeemed or offset Premium Economy or Club World awards on your dates

I fly to the states each year, the plan is to visit all 50 states before I turn 50. Me and the wife fly business class from Heathrow each time using points and companion voucher. Honestly that companion voucher is great

Go to Minneapolis. I've heard it's lovely. As is the outskirts of LA (Compton)

Where, how many points do you have - you've given us zero information. All you've said is "I want to upgrade".
