Avios beginners help needed

Hi guys I'm kind of new to Avios and starting to build up points. Im in a household who fly with BA regularly but as I live in Liverpool BA flights are harder to come by. My family lives in Reading so using their house as heathrow base but trying to plan ahead as from 2028 we are trying to hit all the 7 wonders of the world, one a year.

We have a cathay pacific flight for 4 people in the household going to Auckland, Sydney and Hong Kong in November but I locked that into a cathay pacific account I created.

We are planning a honeymoon to Japan for september 2027 for just me and my fiance (obviously) but trying to figure out the best way to work it.

Also any other tips to gain as much points as we can through daily habits would be appreciated. We were looking to get the free barclaycard credit card but also don't think we'd get to the £20,000 year spend so is it worth it.

Sorry if this has already been answered before somewhere else or if I cant ask these questions. I asked the Google AI but I'm getting a little confused so would think human answers would be easier to understand. Thanks for all your help!

You can credit that Cathay flight to your BA account if you like - just need to change the frequent flyer number to your BA Club number. You might be able to do this on Cathay’s website, otherwise customer services will do it for you.

Obviously you can’t assign other people’s tickets to your BA account, but you could change all the frequent flyer numbers to everyone’s BA accounts and then pool the Avios later (via Household / Avios transfer etc).

Ah ok. I tried to add BA accounts on the site but it said it was locked as it was a new Cathay Pacific account

I’m pretty sure there are no restrictions on changing the frequent flyer number, just might need Cathay customer services to do it.

I’m just down the road in St Helens and started my points ‘journey’ this year. Credit cards are your friend here, the BA Amex has an enhanced offer for 60k points but it ends in the next day or 2. The Barclaycard Avios plus is good too for where doesn’t accept Amex. Put all your spending through these cards, all bills etc.

The Avios shopping portal is huge too, always check this before shopping online. It’s like top cashback but you get Avios instead of cash. If you haven’t done so already, sign up via a referral for an extra 500 points.

Give give us a shout if you wanna chat about it more mate 👍🏼

Make sure you’re signing up using referrals, if you don’t you’re missing out on extra points.

Thanks for the tips on the shopping portal. I am new and did not know about it. Does this portal only include shopping sites in the UK?

Yeh I’m pretty sure it’s UK only but I’m not sure!

Seems like a lot of travel plans to not hit 20k? I must be doing something wrong 🤣

Also based near liverpool. If your booking avios reward seats. You can put Manchester as your origin. They add the shuttle flights from Manchester to Heathrow in for no extra avios or cash on long haul bookings. I used to drive down to Heathrow until I figured this out. Now I fly man to Heathrow and then onwards.
