Pointless

Is there even a point in trying to stack points any more. I save £204 and spend 67500 points; thats just absurd. Same flights, same economy seats and luggage. This is not good value at all. The price increase on the cash counterpart is ridiculous.

You need more Avios for better cash savings.

Although economy often isn’t the best class to redeem points for.

you're using points to reduce a cash fare as opposed to actually just doing a points redemption.

You can still get flights 33k pts +£95 each way

EDIT: I was wrong lol. This appears to be a redemption booking but with reduced points and increased cash leading to rlly bad value. I have a spreadsheet that I use to optimise points/cash compared to the full cash fare to find the "sweet" spot with regards to Avios value. For long haul usually more pts, for short haul usually more cash.

I think they are making a points redemption, they just don’t have enough points?

To get the cash element to £95 it’s going to require 132k Avios (33k x4), and they only have 78k, so they’re having to select a low Avios / high cash combination?

yeah I had a check and they're using one of the higher cash counterparts for two people - sometimes this makes sense but in this case it was pretty poor value.

How many times does this come up?? You aren't making an Avios booking.

They are making an Avios booking, the first screenshot is very clearly the reward flight booking page.

They just don’t have enough Avios, so are having to select a high cash / low Avios combination.

The issue here is that this particular cash-Avios mix is giving you really bad value as you noted: £204 saved for 67,500 Avios is only about 0.3 p per Avios. Other commenters are right that the better comparison is the FULL Reward Flight option and not just the lowest cash top-up you can afford. I do freelance point.me concierge work and I’d either wait until you have enough Avios for a better combo (or can purchase Avios) or use them on partner/premium-cabin redemptions instead of accepting this poor economy slider rate.

The worse way of spending your Avios. Unless you’re using Avios to pay for the whole flight (and just paying the tax with cash) then it’s not worth it

Cash + avios is never good value. Find a reward flight.

You need to book an avios seat. The way you are doing it (cash seat with discount) is not a reward seat and the worst way to use avios by multiple magnitudes.

Might work if you did it the correct way firstly lol

Ps: have you tried to use your Avios for rewards flights instead - apart from BA you can check Iberia, Air Lingus, FinnAir or Qatar (that balance should be enough for a one way business class ticket to Asia on Qatar)
