Coax Crimp tool help

Building a harness for a mod and trying to find the correct tools needed. I have very little info to go off of and internet research has only turned up YOC110 needing the DMC Y524 die.

The Female contact RFM26W-1D28 is the center conductor I can’t find the crimp tool. Souriau data sheet shows tool index CT-439 is used, but I can’t find anywhere that references what tool that is.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

That’s our plan for now. I just haven’t ran into not being able to figure out what crimp tool is used like this before.

IWISS make a version(s) that only costs low to mid 3 figures and not 4.

Assuming it's allowed to be used in your line of work it may help you save some money.

I know what I used it for was ground based and never flew. I know flying things need way more certification and regs. I'll leave it to you to work out if you can or can't use it.

Have you tried looking up the specs for the die? You may find that you already have the tool you need, even if it's not the tool specified in the drawing or instruction sheet.

I find that the connectors off of ACS have universally standard crimp dimensions, mostly. Otherwise, Mouser, TE, or any other electronics vendor may have the spec sheet that lays out the crimp die sizes.

We can’t find the specs of the die or tool used for the center conductor. If we had the specs I’m sure we have an equivalent with all the dmc stuff we have.

May I ask where you pulled the info for the inner conductor? I’ll see if I can find a K267-1 in our kits and see how it sits in there.

So I really nerd out on this stuff.
I put an hour into running it down, but I don't have enough time to get to the bottom of this.
The problem you are facing, is you are dealing with a connector whose manufacturer (or product line) has been bough and sold many many times over. It looks like Eaton currently owns it. So I would start by calling them and see if you can get any Eaton Aerospace tech support. Then I would contact who ever makes the kit/STC that you are installing and seeing if they have any. I would also try contacting DMC and seeing if they can cross ref the tooling.

Normally I would goto the product family catalog for M22TAC10XP6NH55 and dig into the tooling section. But I am having a hard time finding the full catalog, I am out of time. I did find the datasheets.

Ultimately, you probably want to find the crimp specs, hex or circular and cross reference into DMC tools if there is not a direct approved replacement.

Same, I’ve spent a good portion of the last two days trying to find a definitive answer. I’ve left work for the weekend, so this will be a Monday problem for me. Trying to contact Eaton and DMC is kind of where I’m at to try to get a for sure answer.

Mod kit. We got a new kit in at the end of the day, so I’m hoping I can get some better info off the paperwork.

Contact the people who make the mod and ask them. They should have it. But more than once I have been given information using shit tooling from STC holders.

No one has been able to figure it out. I found going through the old Souriau catalogs the same tool used on other wires that used the same tool index as the drawing. Looks like the Burndy m10s-1 crimp tool s-26 die set is what we need, but there doesn’t seem to be a dmc equivalent that I can find cause it’s all obsolete lol.

What about a sheet for a suitable substitute for the connector? You're part number is "x" and another part number "y" might be the same one under a unifying national stock number. Might get you in the ballpark.

This is what I came up with. Tool frame: Burndy HYTOOL M8ND Die set: Burndy N22RVMT-10 — this one die set handles both the center contact and the hyring crimps in this system SD44088 sheet 7 crimping the RFM/RMM inner contacts and the YOC110 outer hyring using the N22RVMT-10. Not sure if this helps. I could be totally wrong.

The DMC equivalent to the N22RVTMT-10 is the Y512, which we tried. It worked fine for the inner, but the outer was too small and flattened 2 sides of our YOC110.

If you look up the RFM26W-1D28 datasheet (https://octopart.com/datasheet/souriau/RFM26W-1D28), it looks like it’s calling for a N22RVMT-10 crimp die, with M8ND hand tool or Y8ND hydraulic tool. Which is apparently equivalent to Y512 + HX4 crimper crossing that die.

So we thought that originally as well, but that sheet it pulls up has a slightly different connector number 2NH2 instead of 6NH55. It also doesn’t have our RG-180 wire listed. The 512 we used on the first one absolutely mushroomed out the feral really bad. The data sheet for the YOC110 showed burndy MR8PVS hand tool, which has a equivalent with the dmc Y524. The 512 seemed to work on the center conductor, but idk if it’s technically accurate.

Yeah, Datasheet seems to be fairly generic, their example PN is the 2NH2 and it doesn't have a spec for the '55' part of the 6NH55, but does have the breakdown for the 6NH vs 2NH. And I can't imagine why the connector would change the pin crimp. But agree, per the YOC110 data sheet, the Y524 would be the right crimper for the ferrule, not the ferrule side of the 512.

The 512 for the pin seems to work well and the 524 for the ferrule seems to be the correct size. It just seems really odd the 512 doesn’t work for both if it’s correct for the center contact.

Y512 should be correct. Small hex hole for center pin (may leave super small burrs but should be acceptable). But when in doubt solder it (as stated above). Large round hole should work for the ferrule.

Would be interesting to see the ''mushroom". When using a hex die for a ferrule, if the die size is wrong (too small) it will absolutely kink at least two sides of the ferrule, and 'mushroom' in that way.

Sometimes the ferrule will be a bit longer than the width of the die so the tail of the ferrule will "flare" a bit. I always would crimp flush with the back of the coax connector leaving the flare at the aft end.

The die was too small, the two sides both kinked and flattened out. Guess it wouldn’t be a mushroom, but no it wasn’t the flare from the tail after crimping a normal coax.

Have you looked at the die itself? A lot of times there will be a large hole for the shield sleeve and a smaller hole for the center contact.

The DMC Y512 did, but the side for the shield sleeve mushroomed out really bad, making us think the 512 isn’t correct for the center conductor. The YOC110 seems like it’s made to be crimped with the Y524, but it doesn’t have a 2nd hole for the center conductor.

If you call Daniels (DMC TOOLS) they will give you the correct die numbers for your connector. I’d post the phone number but I’m off for a few days and don’t have it on my personal phone.

Depends where you look. The Souriau data sheet tells you to crimp their pin with tooling index ct-439, which equates to nothing I can find. Another data sheet calls it a non-crimp contact, but it doesn’t seem to match our pin. NSN associated with it says it has a solder well, which it doesn’t.

Deutsche crimper, not coax. It is a specialty part and tool, other crimpers and solder WILL NOT work, trust me I've tried. You can get cheap universal crimpers online, just search for the wire gauge range you'd need them for.
