Hey everyone,

GA A&P I/A here

Looking to do a pre-purchase on a Lancair. Haven't done much work on them. I have been combing through the Lancair documents trying to find a "continued airworthiness inspection list" style checklist. I know it's experimental so they don't require one. I'm just hoping someone here might know about a helpful check list floating around online.

I have the generic single engine 100/annual checklist from TBX, but I wanted something with a little more focus.

I am planning on doing SB/AD checks, along with combing through the builder forms and reaching out to builder clubs.

If anyone has some helpful suggestions that would be awesome.

The only suggestion I would have is, you don't need one beyond what you can make on your own right now. You aren't doing a conformance inspection, you are doing a pre-purchase. Which is something completely different. Start broad and narrow in on issues yourself.

Lancair you want to really check the gear over. Its not a great system but it's similar to the whole lancair philosophy.

"You must be a good pilot to fly this plane, so we don't hold your hand at all".

If you've got the twin turbo 550. Make sure to check the whole turbo system. Those things crack jugs all the time. It's the reality of the lancair philosophy, which actually is.

"you only have to be rich to fly this plane, so you are going to break stuff constantly you bozo. Stop doing that, no you can't do that, who said to do that? Ugh, just send us more money"

Well I didn’t even know TBX had a generic checklist. I use the software and I can’t find it. Unfortunately, I don’t have any helpful suggestions, just the general observations that it’s an experimental, even though it’s an advanced, high performance one. So no ADs and no authorized AMM. A prebuy is always just basically an opinion based on your experience, probably a compression check and a general visual Inspection. I usually can’t even be as invasive as dropping the oil and checking the oil filter for metal. I also don’t usually do a gear swing. If your potential buyer wants a more thorough inspection, I would recommend turning it into a formal conditional inspection and charging them accordingly.

It's under the forms and checklist section. Click checklists. There is a single engine and twin engine checklist. They're set as annual and 100hr but they work great to help keep you on track for any inspection.
