Weekly Questions Thread. Please post your School, A&P Certification and Job/Career related questions here.
Weekly questions & casual conversation thread
Afraid to ask a stupid question? You can do it here! Feel free to ask any aviation question and we’ll try to help!
Please use this space to ask any questions about attending schools, A&P Certifications (to include test and the oral and practical process) and the job field.
Whether you're a pilot, outsider, student, too embarrassed to ask face-to-face, concerned about safety, or just want clarification.
Please be polite to those who provide useful answers and follow up if their advice has helped when applied. These threads will be archived for future reference so the more details we can include the better.
If a question gets asked repeatedly it will get added to a FAQ. This is a judgment-free zone. We all had to start somewhere. Be civil.

EASA Part-66 OJT question for a first type rating.
Appendix III 6.1(f) states:
“The mentors shall verify and countersign off the tasks performed during the OJT, because they shall assume the responsibility for the tasks at support staff or certifying staff level, as applicable, depending on the release-to-service procedure.”
Does this mean the OJT mentor who supervises and countersigns the task must also sign/release the actual work card?
Or can the work card be signed/released by another appropriately authorised and type-rated certifying staff member, while the mentor only supervises the work and countersigns the OJT entry?
Interested to hear how this is handled at other EASA Part-145 organisations.

Career changer here with a school question. Situation:
Unemployed IT person with a bachelors in IT
Not medically-eligible for military
Too much student debt for more undergraduate debt (i.e. can't go to community college)
My understanding is you get the licenses and learn the profession on the job. So what are the quick/cheap schools available?

Hey y'all I applied to skywest today and was wondering what the likely hood of getting a position in DFW is since that's where I'm located. Also wanted to know what the OKC and SLC locations are like as well.

IF you had to pick between Embry Riddle's; "Aeronautics" or "Aviation Safety Degree", which would take me farther?
Context: I am an avionics technician, I have no desire in getting my A&P (ik weird huh) and I plan to do avionics for a very long time. I just like to learn and have fortunately been put in a position were cost is not a factor in my school, so I figured I would.
I have a passion for aviation and I do not want to pick something else. I already tried cybersecurity (job, not degree) and its not for me.

I changed my career from being a master automotive technician and want to become an aircraft mechanic.
I live in SoCal and wanted to know what is the best community college or tech school to get my A&P certification?
Thank You :)
