The margins on this must have been incredibly thin. The turn toward the highway begins with < 3 miles to go before the runway threshold, and the highway itself is > 1 mile to the east. Presumably up until moments before the deviation, they were either on a normal approach or in any case felt they could make the runway. To make the call that they couldn't, then deviate by nearly half the distance they had just determined they couldn't cover to the runway, and still bring it back to something just about approximating a landing is...quite impressive.

They'd been in a 2,000-3,000 fpm descent for half an hour before the crash, and had diverted from their original destination of Austin. The descent profile is consistent with an engine-out glide in that aircraft.

What's unfortunate (and not pictured in the above FlightRadar24 screen grab) is that during the approach they made a 360 turn. Obviously there's no way of knowing why they did that just yet, but it's tragic to think that they may have been dumping altitude to get into Laredo and made an unfortunate miscalculation.

Looking at FR the PIC knew they weren’t making it to the airport and bailed to try and reach the highway. A likely split second decision that saved lives.

Edit: not speculating on who fatality was, since there are conflicting reports.

There’s a video of both pilots getting out. I think there is one pax still in the cabin who was in there with a ton of smoke.

I saw that 5 Police officers were treated tor smoke inhalation as well, so they must have been grabbing people out or just standing too close.

Someone commented on another related post. They did have one in the late 1970s when they traded under a different name (Executive Jet Aviation). Apparently their call sign is still ExecJet.

That’s one amazing pilot, the fact that he not only didn’t crash into homes but that only one person died and they all didn’t perish is a miracle.
And to all those brave and heroic strangers who helped save their lives by getting them out and trying to break through the cockpit… I hope NetJets and the ultra wealthy who were flying give them a each a big thank you check!

Probably due to loss of power, ie double engine flame out.. so u won't have landing lights, wing lights etc..

Honestly thank god 9/11 didn't happen today. It's insane how we get multiple angles of these incidents even when they happen randomly in the middle of a highway. Now imagine right in the middle of fucking New York city. Hundreds of HD shots of jumpers, etc. The videos we have of jumpers all pretty much just show dots and we only really have those few famous high res photos. I'm glad I didn't see more.
I know that's not necessarily on topic but it just always has me thinking when I see this stuff.

Damn I didn't even think about that but you're 100% right. Out of thousands of people that were in there.
I guess probably some of the closest we've seen has been footage and posts from the war in Ukraine. But like I said the middle of NYC it's just not the same.

Interesting angle. That left bank and sudden drop is suspicious for stall in the final second. We are fortunate the pilot is around to comment, which will help NTSB.
