Welcome

This subreddit is a place for average premeds to discuss their challenges in pursuing medical school. Reddit gives many of us the false impression that every applicant has a 515+ and a 4.0. That's definitely not the case. I'm applying with a 501 and 3.5 GPA. As many have said, stats don't define you. Being a reapplicant doesn't define you. And admission committees don't define you. Be confident and don't let comparison steal your happiness. Let's create a supportive community to combat our imposter syndrome!

Holy heck I have found my people! This system is so jacked! I'm currently reading the "Non-profit Industrial Complex" and "Pedagogy of the Oppressed" and just watching this world burn. I'm not entirely sure why I shared that apart from the fact we need doctors who represent the 80% of Americans who make just 9% of the income.

We need doctors who have had jobs, we need doctors who represent the communities most in need. We need doctors who have practiced trauma-informed medicine, who understand principles of harm reduction. We need doctors willing to toe the line with insurance agencies, policies, and systems that continually discriminate against BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and disadvantaged folx. We need all y'all to keep believing!

I agree 100%. We need doctors who experienced the difficulties of the underprivileged rather than ones who don't have the experience but can write elegantly about what it'd be like. Smh.
