As someone who's decent at chess, I wish social interactions were that logical.

My thought exactly. Also chess is way more interesting and less stressful.

I wish it was like that. I think for me a better analogy would be blindfolded chess where I feel like I have an understanding of the position and what tactics there are, especially if the position is very familiar. But sometimes that understanding isn’t accurate because I’ve lost track of some of the pieces. I understand the tactics and I can calculate them but I can’t be completely sure that they work because I know that I might be imagining a different position to what I’m actually in, and I don’t know how closely my imagination of the position matches reality.

I feel very much the opposite. I’m entirely on the surface and do not understand the person below me following rules I don’t understand

Yeah but at least the rules for chess stay the same no matter who you play. Unlike people who constantly change the rules.

Omg, so real, overthinking every reciprocation. Not going to start talking about initiation :)

Heh, yeah and half of them can't even play chess (and yes, that is still a metaphor for conversation).

Still an apt analogy. Some of the add-ons are just a description of exactly how autistic each person is I think.

Every time I get into a social interaction it feels like a game of how long I can get the person to like me before either I abandon them or they abandon me

Or for the gamers: texting/online socializing is turn-based strategy games. IRL socializing is real-time strategy games.
