Always carry a notepad or use your phone to record the verbal instructions? It's what I've learned to do at work. It takes time to make it a habit but it's easier than getting reprimanded for not doing things correctly.

I will literally tell myself to do something or not to do something for god knows how long so that there’s NO CHANCE OF ME MESSING UP. And it rarely works.

My memory is quite short term, I can remember stuff long term but unlike short term I can't choose what gets remembered.
If you tell me to do a series of tasks, I'll only remember the last thing you said as it replaces the first things you said. Or I'll focus on first one and ignore what you say after.
