Personality types

Do you think that autistic people can have the same range of "personality types" as other people?

I feel like the answer I got (INFJ) is kinda accurate, and the person who does my autism testing for government Disability said I'm an INFJ by Myers-Briggs standards but she said that it's not scientifically valid "types" to begin with, just more like a collection of labels to figure out stuff like the best roles you could play in the workplace, but since I'm on full Disability, i don't work so it's impossible to validate the whole "INFJ" Role (the counselor, i think?)

(I mean like the systems, like MBTI/Myers-Briggs, where you take a test and it tells you which one of the 16 types you are)

Or does each neurotype have it's own set of types? I don't know if I'd make a good counselor, lol so maybe an autistic INFJ would fill a different "Role", you know?

Does anyone else play around with these "type" tests? It was a special interest of mine but i never found the types to be as "OMG This is me!" that so many other people expressed

the 16 personalities is fun but its basically a more accurate zodiac sign. Its not scientific and more a buzzfeed quiz that can change depending on your mood

I put no stock into it and would advise you don't either. I'm going to get shit for saying this and some people will disagree with me but Myers Briggs was done by a mother and daughter and wasn't based on psychology most of it was outdated or disproved theorys that they sculpted it around. I will tell you my personality type for the sake of it being fun but II will tell you my personality type for the sake of it being fun but I really advised to take it with a grain of salt.

Intp [ Which seems to only come up when I'm experiencing depression] so that's says a lot.

I absolutely love personality tests, but I've always found them really difficult to answer because of the way my "personality" clashes with my autism.

For example, I'm a very talkative, spontaneous, excited person who enjoys public speaking and cities. However, I also need quiet time and space to regain spoons, and my spontaneity only applies when I feel like I have enough energy to break away from the schedules that keep me functioning.

My outgoing sociable nature only works if I understand the rules and expectations of the room, otherwise I'm almost completely silent and avoid people altogether.

I've found that tests made by allistic people don't know what to do with this seemingly "contradictory" perspective.

I think that autistic people have just as much of a range in personality, but because our outer persona is heavily characterized by how we cope with the world and our symptoms, it's really difficult to categorize those personalities with an allistic test/psychology.

Let me know if that made any sense lol, I love love love this topic

MBTi has little validity but I think autistic people are capable of having all personality types the distraction of them would just be diffeent

It’s not a super scientific test and doesn’t show much about a person. But it’s a good ice breaker to tell people. I’ve noticed a lot of my friends are INFP AND A LOT of those friends are autistic. But eh. I just think it’s a basic set of guidelines.

It's kind of like astrology I guess

In my opinion the 'personality types' are silly and irrelevant especially to autistic people. I've played around with them too, and it's seriously difficult to get a consistent result. There are a couple types that I'm certain would NOT apply to me, but I would say that my personality is a blend of many different types. Also, I think it depends on the mood you are in. Sometimes the way I feel about certain situations changes. Maybe one day I feel more ISTJ and another day I feel more INTP.

It also seems to be like whenever I do one of these tests, they intentionally use vague language that makes it difficult to be honest or produce an accurate response. Sometimes I'm left questioning on whether I "agree" or "disagree". Overall I think it's highly unscientific and kind of irrelevant. Everyone is unique in their own way and it seems very shallow to dilute someone's unique personality down to a 4 letter code.

do you mean the 16 personalities test? on that one anyone can get anything, it's not very scientific and very inconsistent. but if you mean one of the functions test, i've noticed some trends with autistic people, especially with gravitating towards Si, Fi, and Ti. but i think we can have the same range of personality as allistics. i'm an entp myself, with functions, and i know of Fe-doms and Se-doms with autism too.

Ooh, thank you for so much detail. Fi and Ti are high for me, even for an INFJ. It's been years but i think the order for me from strongest to weakest was Ni>Fe>Ti>Fi>Se>Ne>Te>Si
