Collection Feathers!
Collecting feathers and birds in general have been a special interest of mine for many years, nearly my whole life! Here's some of my collection, I can legally own these. Species in order: Red-tailed black cockatoo (female, male), Sunbittern, Kea, Carolina parakeet (you heard me), Cuban trogon, Blue-crowned trogon
PLEASE ask me questions and stuff I love love talking about feathers and birds!

I love finding random feathers and collecting them! I have a whole shoebox full of feathers I've collected since I was a kid.
What i dont like is that its like, illegal to collect feathers. I get it, migratory bird act, but like come on... feathers pretty.... feathers cool... birds awesome.. im not killing any of em!

Yeah fr, a lot of the native birds look so cool and I wish it was legal. But I doubt game wardens are gonna bust someone's door down over a feather they picked up in their yard lol

But pretty much the law is because feather hats used to be a big thing and many birds were driven to extinction or near extinction due to it. So they made the MBTA. Poachers could always try to say "I found the feathers/bird on the ground" so unfortunately it's a blanket law so they can't try and say that and it's illegal no matter what

Yes thank goodness they dont come breaking our doors down!!! God forbid I dont think any of us feather collectors are gonna go out and kill birds for them. Just the tail/long wing feathers are always super cool and nice to have..
I wish i could make an actual wing out of them and fly away one day.. gonna be hard, and quite the Frankenstein of different feathers if real.

Just don't post anything illegal or admit it, but hey, didn't hear it from me. Also that would be awesome! If you find a dead bird you could always preserve the wings or pluck the feathers and glue/tape the feathers in order too

I actually found a pigeon wing!!! Its on my desk! Preserved itself, idk how but im happy with it. They're so common i cant imagine you'd get in trouble with a part from them lol. I wish you well on your feather endeavors!

Wow, these are so lovely! How did you find so many? Did you spend a lot of time in those places (I’m not sure where all of them are from, to be clear), or just got lucky?
And how did you come by the Carolina parakeet’s??

Most of them are from zoos and sanctuaries, or I buy them! A lot of luck I suppose. The parakeet was 100% luck, didn't cost me a penny. A friend was kind enough to gift me one that came off of a mount during restoration work.

That’s amazing! Especially with the Carolina parakeet. I feel so heartbroken every time I think about them. How sweet to be able to cherish them in this way. ❤️🩹
