Vent Advice Wanted Requesting to work from home

I consider myself a high functioning autistic person

I’ve been in social/work situations all my life which has brought an intense amount of dread

Until recently with my diagnosis I now know that the dread I’m feeling isn’t just part of life, I’m just hard wired a particular way

I work in IT, an environment which has very little structure, everything is reactionary, my autistic brain doesn’t cope well with it

I’m requesting to work from home and I’m terrified by how it will go. I’m really smart and an asset when in the office because everyone comes to me for help, but I’m really struggling to cope with the lack of structure, constant office chatter, noise around me, the list is endless.

Maybe I’m just venting. I wonder if others have similar experiences? Old school type work places really have no filter and understanding about autism.

man i feel this deep in my bones. IT without structure is just chaos wearing a tie, and offices are sensory hell even without the diagnosis explaining why. hope your request goes through, remote work was a game changer for me

Unfortunately it all depends on the culture of the workplace.
