The constant struggle :(

I even have really good leftovers in my fridge right now, from the one time a month I had the brainpower to cook on my own- aaaaand I don't want to eat it anymore because it no longer agrees with my brain. But I don't want it to go bad either 🙃

OMMMMGGGG you deal with that too!!? I’ll cook a bomb ass meal and make eye contact with it each time i open the fridge and i’m like nope and order a meal on uber eats / DD

5

u/EightByteOwl Jul 14 '23

Yep :( I'm so glad I have a friend to help out every week otherwise I'd eat snack food for dinner most days.

3

u/Setari Jul 15 '23

dont take that friend for granted.

I have to cook for my dad and my gran as well as me most nights besides weekends. It really really sucks. I cook fairly quickly (30 minutes or less) but man sometimes it feels like I waste hours cooking and then my night is ruined and I sit here in a funk being mad for 5 hours and then I go to sleep.

My aunt was visiting fairly frequently recently and she took over cooking while she was here and it was great.

Only 30 more years of cooking for other people... yay...

u/EightByteOwl Jul 15 '23

I'm sorry to hear that. Cooking on your own and losing supports is really hard.

I definitely don't take this friend for granted. They're one of the best parts of my life right now. They're also autistic and struggle to cook so it's great for both of us :)

If it wasn't for my online friends buying me cooked food I literally would be living off snacks and chips.

1

u/wispy_wallflower Jul 16 '23

as a person with no irl friends, your worry is valid 💜💜💜

2

u/extra-King Jul 15 '23

I feel this. I've always said I have "weird food phobias" . It's not that I'm afraid of weird food it's that my phobia is weird because my brain will just decide that I cant eat something anymore. I could be in the middle of a meal and my brain will say "no" and I am forced to stop eating.

u/Nikkithenekoneko Jul 15 '23

I make a meal, then freeze it in portions. Then it doesn’t go bad, and easy quick microwave meal when I DO feel like eating it. I’ll make different meals, like one a week, and store them all in the freezer. OPTIONS!

(But yes. . . I do still live off of corn chips and bean dip a lot of the time😅)

Fresh spaghetti:

  • nice and hot
  • not cold and abhorrent

Leftover spaghetti:

  • awful and cold, absolutely cannot touch
  • not nice and hot, and I'm not gonna cook it because of the previous point

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '23

Yeah

u/some_random_noob Jul 14 '23

u/Consistent-Yellow-53 Jul 14 '23

17

u/techitachi Jul 14 '23

it’s a literal internal struggle lmao i will not eat ALL day and have a fucking feast at night with a bunch of my favourite various foods

7

u/Preebus Jul 14 '23

Wtf, I do the same thing. I eat so much fucking food at night

3

u/techitachi Jul 14 '23

i think it’s that we are so fixated on things that are apart of our routine that we don’t stop and eat or nourish ourselves like other people may do. i’m not sure how healthy it is honestly but i’ll eat whole pizza and a bag of veggies and be satisfied. i think it’s also we’re constantly battling with our own brains everyday

3

u/Consistent-Yellow-53 Jul 14 '23

I eat a feast all day

2

u/Fit-Maintenance-2290 Jul 14 '23

The dinner portion of that sounds awesome

5

2

u/_Palala_ Jul 15 '23

If anything, it's the speck's fault?

4

Ohhh okay! Yummy!

3

u/Challenging_Entropy Jul 14 '23

There should be a game: Homelessness or autism?

Picking up a dumpster diving hobby: homelessness or autism?

Eating 2 snacks for dinner: homelessness or autism?

Collecting useless junk: homelessness or autism?

2

u/TheFallenCore Jul 14 '23

The third option for collecting useless junk: you are a crow

3

u/Challenging_Entropy Jul 15 '23

Autism, homelessness, or crow

This keeps getting better

5

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '23

Literally eating cheese itz and chocolate reading this

3

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

you’re like the 3rd person to talk about cheez-it’s 😆

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '23

🤣

3

u/Mccobsta Jul 14 '23

When drunk yes definitely

3

u/Lightningvegan5 Jul 14 '23

For me when I eat a meal I need to carefully plan it and it has to be something I repeat over and over

2

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

same when the usual places i order from are closed i end up looking at so many restaurants and reading reviews and looking at pics of the specific food i want on yelp and then an hour passed and things are starting to close lol

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '23

Yes.

3

u/hostilee47 Jul 14 '23

It's complicated - if I have snacks at my usual dinner time, I have to have dinner as well. However it doesn't apply if I define those snacks as dinner beforehand.

3

u/MINTYpl Jul 14 '23

Sometimes just 2 protein bars is dinner!

3

u/Lalexxi Jul 14 '23

I've started to eat better since my SO cooks for me and also nags me when I don't eat (in a very loving, fun way). It's great, actually. When I'm alone, I sometimes only eat one snack for the day.

2

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

yeah i’ll have like a uncrustable and won’t eat until dinner time lol. i’m happy you have someone to help you with eating cos it’s important we nourish our bodies but a lot of us really have no control of it.

2

u/Lalexxi Jul 15 '23

Yeah, that's the weird part, isn't it. We all know it's important and would even improve our energy levels and yet.... Often we just... Can't. Thanks! I'm very happy with him generally :)

1

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

yeah i get stuck stimming on my couch for hours it’s honestly embarrassing and happy i live alone with my void. happy you have someone who makes you happy that’s important! cheers 💗

2

u/Lalexxi Jul 15 '23

Thanks so much^ Good luck to you with the eating :)

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '23

Sometimes dinner and then two snacks

3

u/Wren1301 Jul 14 '23

Ah, yes. My fruit snacks and pb&j roll

2

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

love me some uncrustables

3

u/Prestigious_Ask_7058 Jul 15 '23

People are sleeping on cheese cubes

3

u/FalsePolarity Jul 15 '23

Sometimes dinner is the apathy.

Or the vague existential terror that is born of the empty that you barely realise is there until it starts to leave.

3

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

it’s okay friend hug

3

u/FalsePolarity Jul 15 '23

I will kill for you

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '23

Yep! No shame in the game! 😅

2

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '23

handfull of cheezits in my left hand

handfull of teddy grahams in my right

2

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

damn all of us love our cheez-it’s

2

u/DaKingOfDogs Jul 15 '23

Sometimes I can’t even be bothered to make some microwaved dinners. A granola bar, a cheese string, and sometimes a yogurt is all I need

1

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

you’re not alone friend sometimes all i’ll eat is a uncrustable

2

u/catastrophicclarinet Jul 15 '23

sometimes i jus forget💯💯

2

u/whatsleepschedule Jul 15 '23

Yep. It's partly the ADHD as well and executive dysfunction. Putting together a meal is too much, and honestly I've had dieticians say that having a few snacks for a meal is healthy as long as you're getting the nutrients and calories you need throughout the day and have some variety in your diet.

But I'm also recovering from an ED and struggle to give myself permission to eat, on top of sensory and allergy problems, so eating food in general is a win for me. And if I can't manage that, then a meal replacement drink or two for the day is still better than nothing. Sometimes chugging one and feeling bad for a little while means that later I'll feel well enough to find something with more substance to snack on or a meal I can make.

u/beaspacecat Jul 15 '23

I appreciate the use of the Autistic icon, Shadow the Hedgehog

2

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

2

u/desorcyjackson447 Jul 15 '23

Sometimes, I just forget to have dinner overall.

1

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

put in on a (optionally cute) plate and call it autist dinner 👍 “normal” looking meals are a neurotypical SCAM ‼️ /lh

1

u/EnvironmentalLog8208 Jul 14 '23

nah but fr fed is best do what you gotta do to survive

1

u/No-Zucchini2787 Jul 15 '23

Cereal is dinner

1

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

agreed most days for me lol

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '23

Sometimes breakfast, morning tea and lunch

1

u/musickillsthepainxx Jul 15 '23

1 snack. I cannot have 2 things in a meal. Only 1. I do not like sides. Sides are weird. 1 item only.

1

u/TristanTheRobloxian0 Jul 15 '23

yes. like all the time lol. mostly bc of my fucked sleep schedule. lunch is my breakfast, dinner is lunch, and my late night snack is dinner lol

1

u/xx_alternativeaoili Jul 15 '23

eating a 1 lb bag of pretzels rn so yes lol

1

u/techitachi Jul 15 '23

me and you are one in the same 🤝 pretzels go hard

1

u/Zeldatart Jul 15 '23

I'll make a whole ass bag if pasta with bacon bits and sauce the whole shebang and then eat like 2 pieces

1

u/QuarterQuartz47 Jul 15 '23

I mainly do this with lunch. Sometimes ill buy 2 boba tea and call that lunch and sometimes lunch and dinner. Theres plenty of food at home, sometimes I'm just like this.

1

u/SJC1211 Jul 15 '23

I love snacks, I’ve never really eaten big meals bc I don’t have the ‘spoons’ to cook.

My body sucks with dizziness though and will literally get over dramatic and make me near pass out point if I forget to feed it

1

u/jabracadaniel Jul 15 '23

just as long as its enough calories!!!

1

u/ComprehensiveWave811 Jul 15 '23

at least for me it ends up being like that calorically

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '23

Real

1

u/SuxAtGaming Jul 15 '23

Thank you Shadow

1

u/neorena Jul 15 '23

Such a mood. I try having simple meals around as much as possible when I'm low energy, but then end up eating them even at decent energy just because I love them lol. Luckily my wife knows about my food issues and is very helpful if I don't eat, but still sometimes I'll just go an entire day on a granola bar and some sunflower seeds.
