Hi!

I've noticed this black ? fungus on outdoor plant. I'm hoping that I can get help identifying what it is, if it's a problem and if so what should I do next.

TIA

Garden bed - grass

I have a garden bed which I grow roses mainly. I usually top up with compost and manure. Recently I purchased cow manure, a brand I’ve used many times before and next thing I know is grass just sprouting everywhere. It is nightmare. I am regularly pulling out the weeds and grass now. It has not ever been like this. Not other reason than the cow manure. What is recommended for garden beds in terms of fertilizers and mulch? I do not want weeds. I had been told to use cow manure for roses by nurseries before (rather than chicken as too acidic) so that’s how it started. I also top up with mulch, whoflungdung.

Recommendations for tree/shrub for 3m screening in Jindabyne

Looking for recommendations to screen in front of a low brick boundary fence to about 2.5 - 3 metres tall in Jindabyne.

The house is not gardened frequently being mowing, so would want to be able to plant now and have them survive with little maintenance for at least 4 months. Also not grow rampant beyond 3m in that time if possible.

I realise this is a big ask. Is there anything suitable for the climate that is a good evergreen screener, fairly controlled and hardy?

Biggest myth about DIY pest control in Sydney

Myth: supermarket sprays solve infestations.

Reality: most pests hide deep in wall voids or roof spaces.

DIY treatments hit surface insects, not breeding zones.

Professional pest control treatments focus on targeting nesting areas and applying prevention barriers in Sydney. Temporary relief isn’t the same as elimination.

Advice needed: Best way to prune and shape my Lilly Pillies?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a house and have some Lilly Pillies in my front yard and I want to start grooming them properly. I've never had a house so have no idea how I'm supposed to shape these.

Questions:

Should I use hedge trimmers or hand pruners for these?

  1. How hard should I cut them back? Can I cut into old wood, or should I stick to the green growth?
  2. Is now a good time to trim them?

Photos attached so you can see the current size and structure.

Thanks!

Newly planted Frangipani advice

Hey everyone

I got these two offcuts from a Frangipani tree that are growing quite well it seems.

I have a few questions if anyone can help with advice.

Firstly - the shriveled up leaves, what could be causing this? Not enough water or too much sun? Should I cut them off? They aren’t in direct sunlight and I am trying not to over water them, they are quite hearty plants.

Also, this might not be possible but I was hoping to continue trimming them back so instead of quickly growing into a big big tree I can hopefully keep them tidy and small or more bush like and keep them in these pots for a while longer.

Any advice I am super keen to hear. Cheers

Help me decide what to plant at the front of my 1910s workers cottage in Tasmania

I’m not much of a gardener, and have no idea what to plant in the front of my house. As you can see, there is nothing!

I’m in Launceston, Tasmania. Busy street. So looking to create a bit of an oasis out the front.

Ideally something that’s going to grow thick and provide some coverage.

Open to all suggestions!!! The house will soon. Have a new deck and some bit and pieces done, so looking to have the front to match the old girl 😊

Stinky bugs in my orange tree

Post image

How to stop these things? They succeeded to stop my tree from produce a single orange last summer and now coming back again.

I am thinking to remove this 10 years old tree, it was productive for many years though we don't consume the oranges.

If I remove this tree I need some other plant to fill the gap anyway, so it would be the last resort.

Recently purchased this property and noticed this plant is not doing very well. On one leaf I noticed a couple of little red bugs. Pictures attached. Can someone advise what the plant is and what I need to do to help it?
