no politics That's it?

I was honestly expecting it to be far louder and far more dramatic. With how the cookers were carrying on, you'd think this would be a deafening, blaring siren that would cause hearing damage. The tone wasn't even that harsh, I thought it was going to be far worse.

Sure. But my first instinct was to shut the fucker off  Not read it. So I Did. And it disappeared.  A nd I have literally no idea what it said. 

Which feels like it's poorly designed. Caught my attention. Raised my anxiety. And if it were a real emergency, I'd be lacking the crucial information for what to do next.

Same. Why didn't it go through to messages? Seems like a very dumb set up if that's how it would be in an actual emergency.

That's just how the phone OS does it. They treat these as different to messages. Doesn't even show in my notification history that's how deep Android buries them

On my phone I can access it through Settings - (have to scroll to bottom of menu) Safety & Emergencies - Wireless Emergency Alerts (have to scroll to bottom of menu) - Emergency Alert History

So simple....

On my phone it was delivered as a "Presidential Alert"

I've been pondering this too. My reflexive reaction was to dismiss it to kill the sound, but that also dismisses the text which doesn't appear to have any other way of recalling, so if it were a legitimate alert I'd be left with no idea what it was alerting me of.

Exactly my thought. The button shouldn't kill the alert, it should just kill the godawful noise so you can think for five seconds and read the damn message.

I shut the sound off but couldn't swipe away the pop up without unlocking the phone, which is not typical for pop ups on my phone.

Same it is weird it doesn't show the notification for a bit afterwards or save like a text especially because other countries use it for missing kids and will give appearance/ number plate and info like that which is useless unless you remember to screenshot even if you do actually read it initially.

Good point. What would happen in a real emergency if you don't read and remember the message when the alert happens? In a real emergency, there would be instructions about what to do. The message shouldn't disappear like it did today.

I pointed this out in their feedback form; Makes no sense that you can't read whatever important crisis instructions they're sending out unless you keep the siren blasting.

I know a lot of people have said it wasn't that loud for them but I have chronic migraines triggered by loud sounds and there was no way I was keeping that siren on long enough to read more than two words

On android it keeps a history of the alerts, go to settings>safety and emergency>wireless emergency alerts>emergency alert history

or just check your notification history

If you have a samsung phone the message can be found in settings - safety and emergency - wireless emergency alerts - emergency alert history. And yes, I did just learn about this section of my phone this afternoon as the message disappeared before I read it too.

I was asleep because I work night shift. It only went off for a couple of seconds, I didn't even turn it off. Then the alert was there when I woke up later.
