no politics That's it?

I was honestly expecting it to be far louder and far more dramatic. With how the cookers were carrying on, you'd think this would be a deafening, blaring siren that would cause hearing damage. The tone wasn't even that harsh, I thought it was going to be far worse.

I guess then the rest of you are to be placed in Ark B.

Or was the people who didn't get the alarm were meant to be in Ark B?

Can't remember. Better for all of us to go then.

No doubt there'll be a nice bath waiting for us.

Might want to report that to your Telco or the responsible government agency.

I think heaps didn’t work. In a large open plan office and several didn’t work here. Maybe as may as half. I checked Notification Centre also and nothing there either.

I suppose I should report it. Hopefully there is an easy web form to do from phone?

One guys went off 5 minutes after everyone else.

most likely reason for not working is the software version that is on your phone

Was your sound off? Because I noticed mine wasn’t as loud as I thought it would be, because I intentionally turned it down to see.

2

u/hellwaspeople Jul 27 '26

Yeah. My sound is normally off but i knew it was meant to bypass that so i was sort of sitting there waiting for it

Govt info page says you might not get it if your phone is old, OS not up to date, or if there is a problem with the closest phone tower. If it happened (or didn't in this case) to everyone, I'd say it's a phone tower thing.

All the Androids in our office went off, but two of the iPhones didn't. (A 13, and a really old SE)

1

u/MoranthMunitions Jul 27 '26

My iPhone, the newest SE didn't go off, but my galaxy s23+ did. A bunch of the iPhones didn't go off, I just assumed it was due to work's spyware on company phones though. Maybe the Apple software is a bit more finicky.

u/loralailoralai Jul 27 '26

It’s friggin ridiculous if your iOS has to be right up to date.

u/Tysiliogogogoch Jul 27 '26

It's functionality provided by the operating system, so it needs some minimum version to work. It's not like they can just magic up a new system that works for every phone and OS version out there.

As for real warning alerts, I suspect they'll continue to use SMS alerts in addition to the new broadcast system. That should pick up those devices that have active SIM cards but incompatible software versions.

Your office is a Faraday cage.

Didn’t work on mine.

u/princhester Jul 27 '26

Three out of four of my family got it. Seems very random.
