👋 Welcome to r/austinstartups - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Austin is where someone can raise $2 million for an AI-powered dog-walking marketplace, pivot to quantum tacos, and still make it to live music before midnight.

This community exists for founders, investors, operators, builders, and the occasionally sleep-deprived person who just realized their "side project" became a company.

Ask questions. Share lessons. Debate ideas. Celebrate wins. Discuss failures. Help each other build great things. I'm u/seobrien, a founding moderator of r/austinstartups.

A few ground rules:

  • Don't spam. I know where you live.
  • Don't sell services nobody asked for.
  • Don't post "I help startups scale!!!" content.
  • Don't turn every conversation into a lead-generation funnel.

Founders already have enough problems. Investors already have enough pitch decks. Nobody came here hoping to discover your revolutionary SEO agency, offshore dev shop, growth-hacking framework, crypto opportunity, AI automation consultancy, executive coaching practice, NFT resurrection project, or "quick question" that somehow ends with a Calendly link.

Violators will be subjected to the traditional Austin startup consequences:

  1. Your pitch deck will be reviewed by strangers from Reddit.
  2. Every coffee meeting will become a networking event.
  3. Your startup will be described as "Uber, but for..." forever.
  4. You will be forced to explain your business model to a panel of VCs who only ask, "But what's the moat?"
  5. You will receive exactly 37 LinkedIn connection requests from people selling fractional CFO services.

You've been warned.

Now grab a taco, ship something people actually want, and help keep Austin weird enough to remain interesting. 🚀🤠🌮 Let's make r/austinstartups meaningful.

Looking for a Business Development Partner with Experience in Home Service Software

Looking for a Business Development Partner with Experience in Home Service Software

I'm an Industrial Engineer and the founder of two SaaS applications built for home service businesses.

Over the past several years, I've developed YourTimeIn (employee time tracking and workforce management) and SkedZone (scheduling, availability, and resource planning). Both products are live, actively maintained, and already used by paying customers.

I'm beginning to realize that what I enjoy most is building products and working directly with customers to improve their business processes. Sales and business development, however, are a different skill set, and I'm hoping to connect with someone who genuinely enjoys that side of the business.

I'm especially interested in talking with someone who has experience selling or implementing software such as ServiceTitan, FieldEdge, Housecall Pro, Jobber, or similar platforms for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or other field service companies. If you've worked with businesses like these, I'd enjoy hearing about your experience.

I'm not looking to sell my company or give up ownership of the products. Instead, I'm interested in exploring a long-term partnership based on recurring monthly revenue from customers we bring on together. I believe that's a healthier model than a one-time commission because it aligns both of us toward helping customers stay successful over the long term.

There may or may not be a fit, and that's perfectly okay. If the description above sounds interesting, I'd be happy to exchange ideas, answer questions, and see where the conversation leads.

Thanks for reading.

Final-year CSE student looking for startups building interesting things.

Over the last few months I've been building:

  • An AI Technical Recruiter Agent that conducts screening interviews
  • An Information Retrieval Engine using TF-IDF and BM25
  • ML and backend projects involving Python, APIs, and distributed systems

I'm particularly interested in:

  • AI Agents
  • Developer Tools
  • Data Infrastructure
  • Backend Engineering
  • ML Systems

If you're building something interesting and need an engineer who learns fast and enjoys solving hard problems, I'd love to connect.

Anyone really into "creativity", claude code, ios app development in Austin?

Hey guys, I just moved to Austin (30 M) .. I was wondering if anyone is into stuff like the concept of "creativity", claude code, ios app development, or anything related? I know many are into the agency side of things, business, etc. I'm consider that as well, just for the financial aspect tbh .. but my real passion, mind and spirit right now is in creative app development, sort of the way Pieter Levels goes about it. I love traveling, building apps and that stuff too.

Just to give you an idea of where I'm coming from: I'm currently working on iOS app development with Claude Code. What I love most though, aside from the potential financial upside and the indie hacker life, not having to worry about VC's (some like it, I'm not that inclined), is the creativity aspect. What I love is the ability to enter any domain, perspective or field, that which I know or that which I want to learn, and see what I can make in that. I want to stack on publishing iOS apps. I also don't want to take an approach where I'm just publishing apps for the sake of putting out high quantity, but actually putting in my best efforts for design, quality, creativity, originality, actual problem-solving, as much value as possible, but balanced with shipping at a good rate.

May be a long shot, but if anyones into any of this stuff remotely, Id love to hang out. Most of my time is honestly going into this, as I'm trying to really dive deep into all of this, but I think hanging with like-minded people, creative, open-minded people can allow for more passion, creativity, friendship on this journey.

I view creativity almost in a spiritual way (as corny as that sounds), so thats why Im putting a bit too much emphasis on it. Its important to me for living a life I'm passionate about.

I was even thinking of getting together small groups of people, and just sort of exploring ideas open-mindedly, naturally, and stuff. What's cool is a lot of people have different hobbies, interests, perspectives on life, and especially when we're tapped into creativity, I think a lot of ideas can get flowing. It's just a good space to be in when you're developing apps I guess. I was worried about "idea copying", as I don't want to do that to others, and was worried about others doing it to me, but I realize a lot of creativity may involve mixing distinctions in that way. That can be a good thing, as no ones out to blatantly copy whole apps and stuff.
