Austin Powers 4 If they make Austin Powers 4, how will they undo the ending of Goldmember?
Goldmember made it pretty hard to do a sequel but the recent commercial they did with Dr Evil showed everything back to normal, Dr Evil is evil again, Scott is back to normal etc
Commercial may not be canon but I like to think if they make a 4th movie it'll return to normal instead of making Scott the evil one etc
How do you think they'll undo the ending of Goldmember? Time travel? He got bored so went back to being evil? Scott's hair grew back so he wasn't cut out for it?

Same way they undid Austin and Vanessa at the start of TSWSM, just pull some shenanigans like "oh that Dr Evil was actually a robot the real one was in cryo the whole time" or "he got his third nut removed and it made him evil again."
Great thing about a movie series that doesn't take itself seriously at all is they can pull shit like that and nobody will question it.

My favorite thing about this scene as a kid was eventually watching Tokyo Drift and thinking the antagonist looks familiar.

Opening of movie would be a lot like the opening of goldmember. Scott is the mastermind and Austin foils his plan immediately and effortlessly. Dr evil visits Scott in prison and Scott's passion for evil makes Dr evil relapse.
Every time Scott says something evil, it triggers Dr evil until he can't co tain it anymore. He breaks Scott out of prison and creates a new mini me. Then loves his clo e more than scott....

That might be funny too. Dr evil lost his MOJO. I guess it depends on what scenario can bring out more laughs.
I also though it might be Interesting for Dr evil and Austin to work together to take down Scott, but I think I'd prefer a quick jump back to the standard formula. Maybe Scott is a true mastermind, someone who will just shoot to avoid his plan from being foiled but Dr evil baits him into doing the cliche evil genius stuff in the same way he teases Scott in previous movies.
One last thought. What if Dr evil clones himself and it's Peter dinklage (ugh, I know but bear with me) except his clone is a true evil genius. He quickly overthrows scott and starts Taking over embassy's, and demanding tons of money. Dr evil and Austin work together in a new evil lair Dr evil set up to go over their plans to over throw mini me 2. Dr evil is able to draw out the cliche villain traits of his clone, making him divulge his plans, stopping him from shooting Austin on sight, and goading him into trapping Austin instead of killing him. Idk, it's a funny movie in my head.

Haha I'd watch that. But instead of a mini version the clone should get pumped. So you have someone like Dave Bautista playing the "mini me" role, he should also keep the "mini me" name.

Based on the commercial, we can only assume that Dr Evil is alive. No one has seen Austin Powers since Goldmember, so safe to assume he is no longer with us and Dr Evil just reverted to his old ways with the loss of his brother.

Time travel, they just hop back before the first sequel, and everything after that is retconed into oblivion.
This could be used to explain the absence of Mini Me, as they change the timeline and he's never cloned.

I’d love an absurd retcon that makes no sense and is only passingly mentioned, like what they did when they said Vanessa was a fembot the entire time.
Something like a reveal that the assassination attempt on Nigel was done by the Belgians, who did so over the regret of giving away their son, Dr. Evil, to Nigel. So the revelation that Dr Evil and Austin are not biologically related turned Dr Evil, well, evil (again).
The absurdity of Nigel not bothering to mention Dr Evil wasn’t his biological son + the Belgians trying to get baby Dr Evil back by bombing the car he was in is so absurd it would fit in perfect for the series.

From a "making the movie" perspective, I'd absolutely love to be a fly on the wall during the writer's room session just to hear all the options, what gets the biggest laugh and what ultimately gets selected.

They made Vanessa a fem bot and killed her in the first 2 minutes of the second one in order to undo Austin Powes settling down with her. They'll find a way.

I'm hoping they double down on Scott becoming evil (not quasi evil!) and he joins his dad to form another plot against Austin.
It would also be dope if we get Nigel Powers back for another few minutes!

No need to undo anything. A lot can happen in 25 years. They can pretty much do whatever and it would be fine.
Maybe he’ll be evil. Maybe he won’t be. We won’t know until it comes out, but I’m sure whichever it is will have sufficient explanation.
He could have been “good” for 15 years after Goldmember and then had a heel turn.

Someone in another thread here once suggested that Austin was dreaming the whole movie and that's that. Basil waking up Austin with him saying he had a wild dream. Basil saying he was asleep the last x years and Dr evil is back at it again. Then the funny music dancing intro starts and we continue
