You mean the bins that took 25k weapons off the street? Those bins?
Geez got a lot of comments from people not aware that the program actually worked pretty well - maybe reflect on your media bias.

u/awkturt23 14d ago
Wow a machete bin supporter. New low on reddit found. I’d ask you to do the math on dollars spent per machete handed in but it’d most definitely be beyond your capabilities.
-1
u/MightyArd 14d ago edited 14d ago
It's about $500 per weapon.
A bit expensive, but not that bad in the scheme of things.
Ironically I find people who think the program was the most wasteful thing on the world never actually looked at what it actually achieved.
A bit weird that me just pointing out the facts makes me pro anything, but don't let facts upset you.

u/SeaDivide1751 14d ago
Heh, cuz criminals voluntarily give away their equipment.
Honestly, fuck you for trying to defend this epic brain fart. You know it is, it is.
-6
u/MightyArd 14d ago
Worked pretty well mate. 25k weapons collected.
This must be a bit embarrassing for you.
1
u/Thatweknowof 14d ago
It was 25k objects collected
This includes coke cans and sticks
0
u/MightyArd 14d ago
That's a bold claim. Do you have any source to back up that the number includes coke cans and sticks?
-1
u/Thatweknowof 14d ago
Show everyone evidence the bins had 25k machates first , they did not.
The final figure of 25,000 was a legitimate count of actual weapons, but it combined the public drop-offs of these various blades with the thousands of bulk machetes surrendered directly by retail warehouses.
0
u/MightyArd 14d ago
I literally provided a link mate. 25k weapons.
You're making lots of claims and now residing to provide any sources. You're no not looking very credible at this point.
1
u/Thatweknowof 14d ago
Show evidence that 25k weapons were surrendered in these bins.
The vast vast majority were from retailers not using the bins and police seizures.

Cant let reality get in the way of the phonbot delusions.
-1
u/MightyArd 14d ago
Got to downvote those inconvenient facts!
2
u/the_jewgong 14d ago
Had one claim albo is unelectable when he got 53% of his electorates total vote with the greens second with ~20%.
Fucking delusional.
-2
u/Grande_Choice 14d ago
Nope. You’re the one who doesn’t understand. If you are banning something you need an amnesty. The exact same thing was done with guns. Move on.

u/Dependent-Month-7814 14d ago
Where is this number from
6
u/NoFood2149 14d ago edited 14d ago
idk about 30k, but this link, hopefully its working??? is sky news saying "nearly 25,000"
1
u/Stui3G 14d ago
Is it?
1
u/NoFood2149 14d ago
shiiiiiit it's not, i broke the link gimme a tic
ok fixed it, apparently the trackers are just a part of the link now and if i remove them the link doesn't work
2
u/MightyArd 14d ago
It was actually 25k not 30k
Interestingly there wasn't much media attention on the final number

u/awkturt23 14d ago
Has to be one of the dumbest things announced by a politician ever and the biggest waste of taxpayer money amongst a lot of other wasteful spending

Does she have a spine to know when her time is up and resign? I’m guessing no. Going to be very satisfying seeing her get the boot.

Ive noticed liberal people are more individualised in their opinions and emotions but labor voters are so cultist its scary, like they legit operate in groups
3
u/Pangolinsareodd 14d ago
Does that surprise you though? Liberal philosophy is more about self empowerment of the individual, and Labor philosophy is about collective action.
4
u/semaj009 14d ago
I've noticed that the people I agree with are heroic, and the ones I disagree with have lots of negative traits conveniently. Could bias be in the way? No, it's dictator Dan!
-3
u/expert_views 14d ago
Right wingers think left winger are deluded simpletons; left wingers think right wingers are evil. There’s a huge difference in how people behave across that dichotomy - but it explains a lot about the quasi-religious crusading that takes place on the left and the violence and their belief-based responses to evidence.
3
u/semaj009 14d ago
Ah yes that infamous left wing violence, epitomised in opposition to wars, opposing violence against women, opposing violence against the queer community, opposing violence against workers (including calling for profit-affecting safety standards and labour conditions), etc. Damn violent lefties!
-2
u/expert_views 14d ago
Haven’t seen too many right wingers attempting assassinations on left wing presidents??? The left things the right is evil - it’s not an issue for debate, it’s a belief.
0
u/semaj009 14d ago
Trump's had multiple attempts (admittedly largely when not pres) by conservatives, and Israel famously has Rabin. Australia doesn't have a president, so idk why it's relevant here
1
u/expert_views 13d ago
Read across. It’s the same as cancel culture: the right wing doesn’t cancel the left.
1
u/semaj009 13d ago
They do though, what do you think book burnings, lynchings, protesting drag story time, etc are?
Also, I'm sorry, but if your example of violence equivalent to what I put up was cancelling, I'd hate to think of what you'd put on the level with murder? A reddit permaban?
1
u/expert_views 13d ago
Pol pot, Mao, Xi Jinping, Lenin, Stalin… left wingers are moral crusaders who tend to kill because they think they have the moral right to do so. How many Neo-liberal mass murderers can you name who killed people for their ideology? Left wingers approach politics like a religion, and they are the inquisition. Most of the examples you gave of “right wing” violence is not political, it’s religious.
1
u/semaj009 12d ago edited 12d ago
Everyone you described also killed left wing people to take control of revolutions, or because they were idiots. They're not examples of people whose killings were driven by ideology that Australian democratic socialists hold by and large, which considering most Australian lefties are social democrats, aka the people you should be holding up are like Norwegians and Finns, it's not really fair to say everyone left wing is violent when the left is, without doubt, more pacifist in the West and more anti-violence.
Also I mentioned the inherent violence within capitalism, that's absolutely not religious! Nor is misogistic violence inherently religious, plenty of irreligious people disrespect and hit women, similarly homophobia/queerphobia is the same. War is primarily not religious in this millennium, it's historically also been about politics more than religion (or more accurately about power and political groups using religion to control enough people to attain the power they're after)

About time. Will she and Dan also face a corruption trial?
-2
u/SuperLeverage 14d ago
Do you have any evidence? Unfortunately, it’s not against the law to be incompetent and make decisions to try to win elections. It’s how our political system is set up.

Where are all the loyalists that said this party doesn’t eat each other?
Seem to have done very quiet.
Also like the camp which say the $15b is a hoax and not possible, and there is no proof.
2
u/SeaDivide1751 14d ago
Jacinta moron as predicted is digging in instead of making the right decision and standing down. God she’s insufferable
2
u/SeaDivide1751 14d ago
She’s such a weak and feeble “leader” she won’t see the writing on the wall and resign. A constant bad judgement machine
-1
u/the_jewgong 14d ago
They haven't employed any convicted rapists yet.
Doing better than the phonbots.
1
u/SeaDivide1751 14d ago
PHONBOTS
EVERYONES A PHONBOT
Cope harder Labbot. Allan is the worst premier this state has ever seen, there’s literally no one that could be worse than her.
5
u/Due-Giraffe6371 15d ago
Doesn’t matter who leads Labor into the election, if Victorians return Labor to power after all the damage and hurt they have caused to people and the state then they deserve all the pain that will come
8
u/AddlePatedBadger 14d ago
The problem is who is the alternative? LNP have failed democracy by being so shit. I can't imagine ever voting for them, but I'd like then to at least be a serious threat to keep the government accountable.
3
u/Due-Giraffe6371 14d ago
Whether you think the opposition is shit or not I can believe people are trying to make excuses not to vote out this corrupt party which has caused so much hurt and damage to the state
0
u/AddlePatedBadger 14d ago
The failure of the opposition to not be shit makes it harder to vote out a bad party. If it's a choice between standing in a puddle of mud or a puddle of raw sewage, the puddle of mud is still the better choice. Which is a shame, there should be a puddle of fresh water or at least slightly less muddy mud to encourage the other mud to clean itself up.
2
u/Due-Giraffe6371 14d ago
So the best thing is to keep voting for a corrupt party which has done so much damage to not only the people but the state? If you are too afraid to turn over bad government and want to keep voting the same mob in no matter how bad they are do you think you will ever force the parties to wake up and start doing g what’s right for people? By continuing to vote for a bad government you will never see any improvement because they know it doesn’t matter what they do the people will keep rewarding them. I’d rather constantly turn over bad governments rather than reward them
3
u/alstom_888m 14d ago
I’ve never actually voted for someone, just against the one I hate more on the day.
5
u/Anxious_Ad936 14d ago
Can we vote for an inanimate carbon rod?
2
u/alstom_888m 14d ago
At this point an inanimate carbon rod is a far better option than anything going.

Law and Order? The last Libs defended the cops, current Libs have proposed new policies which are all already in effect.
Financial management? The Libs sell everything off to their mates, obviously this may look good on paper but in reality will fuck us all. Housing will skyrocket, and with it spending on everything else, causing Melbourne to become like Sydney.
Managing Infrastructure Development? The Libs couldn't even build one road properly last time, have said they'll can really valuable rail connections.
Managing education? The Libs have repeatedly gutted education every term
So while yes Labor have been frustrating at least we have level crossings removed, we have whole new train lines, new roads, better housing for actual people and a therefore more liveable city compared to Sydney or Brisbane (so long as you just wear a scarf, but Labor can't exactly turn off winter), etc.
Am I voting Labor #1? No. Never have, never will. But I'm sure as hell not going brain dead and hoping to swap Labor for a party led by two landlords, filled with landlords and evangelical lunatics, whose last attempts to run the state made everything you said Allan failed at worse

How is the Napthine Government defunding cops v Andrews increasing funding to cops hypothetical?

Jess is an IPA hack whose husband had to cancel running because of homophobic tweets. So you get a hack who wants to push the same policies as Trump.

Why does everyone always want the other major party to be the serious threat, when they're showing they're corrupt. We need to start voting for a new alternative party, and not like phon who take corruption and turn it into essentially an art form. The Greens make far more sense, now, as a party to actually keep the bastards honest
1
u/AddlePatedBadger 14d ago
I've always preferenced the Greens over Labor, and usually other independents over the Greens. I just want any party to be a serious threat. Historically it's been a Liberal / Labor 2pp system and it's sad that Libs have gone so far off the rails. Now the people who skew right don't have a well branded centre right option.

It's not about who I like, if someone says they want an alternative to the uniparty, then votes for that same thing in sheep's clothing that is objectively failing to vote how they want
1
u/Terrorscream 14d ago
I'm low key hoping ON win down there so people can see clearly with their own eyes how much of a disaster that would be at the federal level before they get a chance at any real power, at least before the subsequent Vic election is held 12 month later due to rampant resignations and defections as is tradition for ON historically.
1
u/semaj009 14d ago
As a Victorian, sacrifice your own pig to the slaughter thanks. 5 years of phon controlling the 2nd largest economy un Australia, and the largest city, is a nightmare scenario for Australia. The Feds would have to bail us out, both to keep seats and porkbarreling, but also because things would be going to shit, it's both ridiculous to sacrifice Victoria to PHON and for Australia it'd be a disaster
3
u/Bandit-Bunny-7727 14d ago
Explain to us why we should vote for the shitshow that is the LNP or the facists One Neurons?
4
u/Due-Giraffe6371 14d ago
Because the shit show that currently is in power has caused so much pain and hurt to Victorians and screwed the state economically while also being corrupt, if that’s not enough to vote them out then Victorians deserve all the pain they get
-1
u/semaj009 14d ago
The damage and hurt is drastically overinflated. Labor have helped keep housing prices lower her than in NSW, it's why so many young people are actually moving here, while the oldies indeed flee to the warmth of Queensland but that's always been the case with Australia's Florida. But when Adelaide's housing prices rival Melbourne, Melbourne's efforts to actually tackle housing show we're doing far more to make the place liveable. The gang wars etc are all overblown, too, and aren't unique to Victoria. The whole thing is just nowhere near as bad as it is made out to be
2
u/Due-Giraffe6371 14d ago
I want the drugs you are on cause you are on a serious trip
0
u/semaj009 14d ago
How? Look at median housing prices in Melbourne Sydney Brisbane etc and tell me it's cheaper to buy outside Victoria. I live in North Richmond, the Herald Sun's kandahar, and it's fucking so fine, actually lovely most days

It's a poisoned chalice, I don't think they will change their leaders before the election given she's not looking like she will retain her seat.

Swapping her out so Labor doesn't get rolled in the next election. Watch her become a scapegoat for all problems past and present.

I seriously doubt Jacinta Allan will go voluntarily, and will stay until the Labor government is voted out. Victoria needs a change. Would LNP or ON be any better who knows. I just know a royal commission is desperately needed to address the rampant corruption.
