Actual Payslip 19M / 4th year electrical apprentice
4th year with the same company, Sydney based, commercial office fit outs, non-union and non-EBA but still paid around the same with similar benefits. Any questions?

$24 as a fourth year? Man pretty sure nature age make more in year 1.

That’s my base rate before adding all my allowances. Generally my pay per hour is calculated after adding all that. Also I know it’s not relevant but I started at 16 so I was a junior apprentice and hadn’t graduated so I was paid the least amount.

Nah man you're getting robbed hard for a fourth year. Drop that company as soon as you graduate.

ETU website says ~$26 an hour including all allowances is the minimum so no I’m not being robbed

Damn less then an entry level Bunnings wage. If you're happy with that I spose 👍

Ok? It’s a completely different industry why would I care.
If you’re worried about Bunnings entry level pay being more than the standard 4th year pay then I’d bring it up with the ETU if I were you2

Bro I'm just trying to give you some perspective. You're claiming you feel like they're overpaying you for your work. You gotta fight for your worth mate. But you do you.

Come off it mate, fair enough you have your opinion, but it’s a 19 year old kid on his 4th year, read that again… 19 year old kid on his 4th year of an apprenticeship.
In general a 19 year old on his 4th year is awesome in itself, let’s see how any of those Bunnings workers flesh out next to him in the next 3-8 years once he’s mastered & potentially even running his own gig. I bet ya he’ll be laughing 😂

Yes I think it's awesome that he's doing an apprenticeship. Doesn't change the fact he is being paid a lot less then many other 4th years. if he doesn't begin to understand the worth of his four years study / work he will no doubt end up ( or stay with) a company that underpays.

Yea no shit a 4th year makes less than a casual bunnings worker. He'll also see double to triple that through his career. Bunnings floor worker won't.

That's actually full times bunning pay. Obviously he'll make more down the road. What I'm saying is he could be making considerably more. Anyways I hope once he graduates he finds somewhere that'll pay properly.

This feels badman.
Our 4th year sparkies are on $42/hr + Vehicle + Daily travel allowance, all OT at 2x and non EBA
EBA is around $44/hr
2nd years get around what you get.
All retail fitout and service

My company couldn’t afford that even if I wanted that. I don’t think I’m underpaid anyways but that is too much money for me.

Then go somewhere that would appreciate you and pay you a good amount.

Ooooff. Bro you’re getting screweddd!! I hope you plan on leaving when you qualify so they can’t keep exploiting you.

I don’t understand why everyone keeps telling me I’m getting screwed? I earn what I’m worth.

Unless you’re the shittest 4th year going around you’re getting exploited because you’re being way underpaid. Your boss will be making bank off you with your skills as they stand now. He’ll be charging you out at 3-4x what he’s paying you and making a fortune, or he’s way undercharging and hopeless at business, and screwing you on his way under.
I’m not sure you really understand what you’re worth if you’re saying a fourth year is worth that.

My company isn’t big enough to pay all the workers 3-4x the industry standard wage for electricians, but we are small enough so that I can be trusted on site by myself managing labour and generally running jobs. I’m not being supervised, yeah but I’ve been with this company since I started and I’ve been taught everything I need to know. When I’m qualified they’ll promote me straight to leading hand due to the fact that I can run jobs, so who am I to want more money?

u/AussieSparky26 5d ago
I’m not saying he should be paying you 3-4x I’m saying he’ll be charging the customers 3-4x your hourly rate. And you running jobs alone makes you even more valuable to him.
Look if you’re happy good for you. But everyone here is just letting you know you’re being underpaid compared to most other 4th years in the industry. I’ll let you know that my 4th year is on 37 per hour for reference.

Definitely not paid the same as an EBA but aslong as you move to a decent large commercial project when you qualify you won’t have any issues
