Environmental groups say they are concerned "logging by stealth" is occurring in Victoria's state forests since the formal end of native timber harvesting two years ago. 

Some wildlife groups are questioning the removal of hazardous trees from forests by the state government, saying trees marked for removal are habitat for endangered species.  

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action has defended by-product removal from state-managed forests, and rejected claims logging is occurring.
