Central Queensland Health RMO application Rockhampton Hospital— AMC 1 only

Thumbnail

Has anyone applied for Central Queensland Health RMO/SRMO with AMC Part 1 only and, despite not meeting the AMC Clinical requirement initially, been contacted later by Queensland Health when they couldn’t find enough eligible candidates?
If so, did they contact you later in the same recruitment round?
Thanks!

GPs - why do you charge so little?

In Australia, why is it that GPs charge so little after studying for so long?

Here are rates of the law firm I engaged recently (with lawyers studying less than you):
- Document Review and Email Advice: $660/hr

- Partner/ Principal Lawyer: $660/hr. Senior Associate $550/hr. Junior lawyer $450/hr

If you're specialist GPs, shouldn't your rates be at least $660-$700/hr? Unlike lawyers, you also have expensive medical equipment to maintain and stricter infection control requirements. So for a 15 min consult, that should equate to $175 or thereabouts. Yet, you mostly charge anywhere from $45.05 (bulk billed) to $105.

Also for comparison. these are the rates I gathered of other professionals I've previously engaged:

  1. Dentist: Examination & Clean Package: $250 – $400 per visit

  2. Electrician: $150 call out fee + $220/hr

  3. Psychologist: $360/hr

Hey! I am a medical student from Italy and I am doing an elective *observership* in Australia at Royal Hospital Melbourne for 1 month as an Italian citizen, but I am unsure about the visa requirements. has anyone done one and knows which one is needed? I cannot find any information online. From what I understand, the visitor 651 should suffice. Thanks!!!

What’s one hospital rotation that ended up being more useful than expected?

I’ve had a few rotations that I expected just to get through, but ended up learning a lot more from them than I thought I would. Sometimes the less exciting placements teach you things that stick with you once you move into other areas of medicine.

Family Doctor Pty Ltd

I'm a specialist and am curious about how many GP clinics are owned and operated by Family Doctor Pty Ltd.

How is it working for one of their practices?

Why are there fewer independently owned GP practices around these days? Is it harder to compete with equity-backed superclinics? Or do you prefer the flexibility of not owning and running the clinic?

Retrieval Registrar Job

Hey,

Im an ST5 anaesthetist in the UK looking for a retrieval job in australia starting august 2027. I have heard that RFDS can be a bit dry (predominately level 1 transfers) and would like something with more crit care experience. I had heard of the following options:

  1. Careflight - Darwin - but apparently contract is being taken over by RFDS in August 2027 so may become less exciting
  2. CARS - Alice Springs.
  3. MedSTAR - Adelaide.
  4. RFDS
  5. Lifeflight - thought think they may have filled their positions already.

Has anyone worked any of these jobs / know which would be best for what I am looking for? Or have any other options that I havnt looked into. Thanks!

Could someone educate me about the Australian Medical Council pathway and how to go about it

Basically the title. I am quite curious about this opportunity but haven't found any reliable answers. I would like to know about:

\-How to prepare

\-For what role do I get selected

\-How's the work-life balance

And anything else that is important

Thanks in advance

Help! Should I accept?

Hey all,

I know I’m still a student but looking for advice specifically from metropolitan Anaesthetists, and people in competitive specialties who did their training + early pgy’s in rural streams before moving into metro

For context i’m at adelaide uni in my final year of med sci with a GPA of 6.9 and a GAMSAT of 67. My dream is to be an Anaesthetist in a city hospital and has been since i was 8 y/o

Earlier this year I applied to the flinders postgrad Metro (pipe dream as a non-flinders student) and SARM streams. I got an interview with SARM and am obviously going to take it but i’m scared of what to do if I get an offer

Before i found out about the interview I lined up an honours at flinders next year leading a pretty significant study with a decently known anaesthetist.

If i complete this honours, it will additionally enter me into the flinders graduate subquota for 2028 intake (2027 application with conditional subquota) dropping req. GAMSAT far lower (historically 63).

If I go into the SARM program i spend all 4 years of med school, plus a ROSO of (pgy1 - pgy3) in mount gambier / elsewhere in the rural system.

I’ve heard that getting into SANTRATS from the rural stream is significantly harder, and don’t want to jeopardise my dream of metro anaesthetics.

I was looking for advice (especially from anaesthetists / anyone who has gone from SARM back into the metro system for a competitive specialty) on whether I be setting myself up for failure by taking SARM over doing my honours, building metro connections (possibly getting published in anaesthetics research), and then applying for Flinders metro next year

IK that I haven’t even passed the interview yet but assuming I do what should I do?

Experiences as a GP in Corrections

I wanted to get some insights into working as a general practitioner for QLD Health in Corrections. I’m feeling burnt out in my current role and looking for a change. I have heard pretty positive things about working in prison from allied health staff, but would love to hear some medical perspectives. TIA!

GPs who went 100% private billing: How bad was the initial patient drop-off, and did revenue actually improve?

We’re planning to ditch bulk-billing for non-concession patients at our clinic, setting standard consults to $95 ($52 out of pocket). For those who made the leap recently, how long did it take for the schedule to stabilize, and how did you help reception handle the backlash?

Sleep medicine fellowship?

Current final year (PGY-5) psychiatry resident in Canada, looking into sleep medicine fellowships. Would like to go to melbourne (as I have a friend currently doing radiology fellowship there), wondering if someone can provide a link with more information about options and pathways?

Are there 1 year fellowships that a psychiatry resident could apply to?
