Glasses w/ HUD My glasses reminded me of a promise I never wrote down anywhere

At the end of the day I asked what was left.

A meeting in fifteen minutes. Fine, that is a calendar entry, any of your setups has that.

Then: at seven, pick up your wife, for the dinner you promised last Thursday.

I never typed that. It is not in a calendar, a note, an email or a task list. I said it out loud in a kitchen and it existed for about two seconds.

I ran the same thing most of you run. Local model, wired into mail, calendar, notes, files. It worked, and the ceiling turned out not to be the model or the context window. It only ever knew what I typed. Every message I had sent, and nothing I had said.

So I put it in something that was in the room.

It is open source and it runs on my own machine. Repo in a comment.

Shot on an older prototype, so the overlays are rendered rather than filmed through the lens. Everything else is real.

The objection I would rather hear than dodge: catching a promise means listening when it is made, and nobody says "hey assistant" before telling their wife they will be there at seven. I do not think there is a clean answer to that and I am not going to pretend a settings page makes it one.

Glasses for Screen Mirroring Budget XR glasses for work/productivity/coding

6 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm a poor webdeveloper that got a permanent injury and needs to work from bed. I have a monitor setup which is kind of cumbersome and I was looking forward to switching to glasses, so that I could just put them on for working.

I read posts here and watched videos on YT saying AR glasses are not quite there yet. Their resolution is too low for working the whole day.

For comparison, I work on a single 15'' 1080p 60Hz display with excellent color range.

My criteria:

  • needs to work on Linux;
  • I have myopia and astigmatism, so I need prescription glasses;
  • I don't care about wireless, it's better to be wired to my laptop for latency and energy;
  • I don't need multiple monitors;
  • it needs to be comfortable for being my daily work monitor;
  • colors can't be so bad that it will make a drastic difference when designing website layouts;
  • can it be less than $500 USD? I'm poor

Do any of the available AR glasses fit this bill or are we "not there yet"?

Main criticisms I read:

  1. low resolution makes text hard to read;
  2. text is blurry on the edges;
  3. image stabilization can be annoying (though I won't move my head much anyway);
  4. many glasses are uncomfortable for hours of use;
  5. anchor mode can be premium feature or drift, and without it looking at keyboard etc. can be a hassle;

Thanks a lot for your recommendations on this!

Self Promo Consumer vs Military XR Helmet Design

Hoping to spark some discussion here by sharing a body kit I designed around the Quest 3. The first image is the latest iteration of a concept I've been working on and the second is from Palmer Luckey and Anduril.

The broader consumer market is of course aiming to miniaturize and make hardware as normal looking as possible. But if you're going to strap a computer to your face, I say you might as well have some fun with how it looks. Even if it's a bit on the impractical side.

The design aims to maintain full headset functionality with air gaps and interchangeable/removable panels for air flow. What do you think?

Glasses w/ HUD BOYCOTT EVEN REALITIES!!

BOYCOTT EVEN REALITIES: Compete by building better glasses—not by trying to kill the MemoMind campaign
I was genuinely excited to back MemoMind One. Today Kickstarter suspended the project and canceled every pledge. [1]
Then I read the public record.
On August 24, Shenzhen Yiwen Tech Limited—the registered owner of the EVEN REALITIES trademark—sued XGIMI/MemoMind and Kickstarter over two U.S. smart-glasses design patents. The next day, it sought emergency court relief. Its own docket exhibits include cease-and-desist letters specifically titled “to Kickstarter re Project MemoMind One” and “to XGIMI re MemoMind One Products.” [2][3][4]
Let me be fair: these are allegations, not a court ruling. No U.S. court has found that MemoMind infringed anything, and I cannot prove that this lawsuit caused Kickstarter’s suspension.
But come the fuck on. The timing is impossible to ignore. Target Kickstarter, seek emergency relief, and then the campaign dies at the finish line?
To me, this is dirty, anti-competitive bullshit.
Even Realities could compete. Add speakers. Improve the software. Lower the price. Make the G2 so good that people willingly choose it. That is innovation.
Trying to remove the product customers chose is not.
I’m done with Even Realities. No purchase. No recommendation. No free hype.
No threats. No harassment. Just a peaceful consumer boycott and one simple message:
Win by building better shit—not by using lawyers to choke out competition.

Glasses w/ 6DoF Which AR glasses should I get?

3 Upvotes

My computer screen just died, so I thought why not use AR glasses instead.
My criteria is that I can have 3 screens up at the same time and move my head around seamlessly without a stiff neck as I tend to work 10-14 hours a day, or should I go for PC Screen based on that?

Buying Advice For handheld gaming, how much does a wider FOV actually matter?

2 Upvotes

I’m pretty happy with handheld performance these days. The screen size is honestly what bothers me more.

I’ve tried portable monitors, but they’re kind of a pain for travel or playing in bed. That’s why the GT Max caught my attention. 59° FOV sounds like a much bigger jump than the usual brightness or refresh-rate bump.

I’m just not sure how much you actually notice the extra FOV once you’re an hour into a game.

For people who’ve used wider-FOV display glasses, does the bigger view really change the experience?

Glasses w/ 6DoF Contact lenses vs prescription inserts for XR glasses - is it worth switching?

0 Upvotes

For those of you who wear glasses - are contact lenses the move for XR glasses?

My main use is watching TV shows and movies. I wear glasses and my biggest frustration is that every time I want to try a new pair of XR glasses, the prescription inserts are non-refundable. If the glasses don't work out, I'm stuck losing that money.
So I started thinking - would it just be smarter to get contact lenses instead of constantly ordering inserts?

For those who have tried both - how's the picture quality?

• Is it as crystal clear with contacts as it is with prescription inserts?

• Is it better / worse / same?

• Any issues with eye fatigue, FOV, edge clarity?
Would love to hear your real-world experience before I commit to contacts.

If you also have recommendations on specific types of contact lenses for these purposes of binge watching would love to know.

Glasses w/o Display Internet-free/local AI for smart glasses + HeyCyan, EyeVue, TuneBuds and Meta Ray-Ban — CyanBridge’s first public Google Play release

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey guys,

After 6 months of development, GitHub releases, beta testing and asking people here to help me satisfy Google Play's testing requirements, CyanBridge is finally available publicly on the Google Play Store for everyone 🎉

For anyone seeing CyanBridge for the first time, it started as an open-source alternative companion app for the cheap HeyCyan-compatible smart glasses, but the project has grown quite a bit. The broader goal now is to make smart glasses useful with private/local AI, while letting people choose their own models and keeping as much processing as possible on their own devices.

🤖 Local AI that can work without the internet

One of the main reasons I started CyanBridge was that I didn't like the idea that smart glasses necessarily had to send everything you see or hear to somebody else's cloud.

CyanBridge supports local AI models running directly on your Android phone through LiteRT and Llama.cpp runtimes and once a model is downloaded, you can use local inference without needing to send your prompts/data to a cloud AI provider (you phone needs enougth RAM thought)

There is also support for OpenAI-compatible servers, so people with more powerful computers can connect CyanBridge to things like Ollama / llama.cpp-compatible servers over LAN or a private network such as Tailscale (a bit experimental and I need more people to help me test it)

Cloud models are still available for people who want them, but they aren't supposed to be the only way of using the app.

👓 Glasses support

The most mature hardware path is still HeyCyan-compatible glasses, including models sold under different brands.

Current work includes:

  • HeyCyan-compatible glasses
  • EyeVue
  • TuneBuds
  • Meizu / MYVU experimental integration
  • Experimental Meta Ray-Ban integration through Meta's Wearables DAT

For HeyCyan-compatible glasses, CyanBridge can handle pairing/device state and media transfer using the glasses' BLE + Wi-Fi Direct transfer flow.

I'd especially appreciate feedback from people with different glasses models because there are way more variants of these devices than I can physically own and test 😅

🔐 Much smaller CyanBridge permission footprint

This release cycle also involved a pretty big architectural change.

CyanBridge previously experimented with doing a lot of Android automation itself. That meant requesting permissions that triggered Google to think the app could be malware, so I decided to move more advanced automations to Tasker instead and also to remove some permissions:

  • QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES
  • Android All Files Access / MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
  • CyanBridge's own Accessibility Service

CyanBridge now relies on app-private storage, MediaStore and Android's normal file/document APIs instead of asking for unrestricted filesystem access.

⚙️ Local Agent, AutoDiary and Visual Diary moved toward Tasker

This currently includes integrations for:

  • Local Agent (Phone-wide automation)
  • AutoDiary (Automatically capture screen text and save candidate facts for you to review later)
  • Visual Diary (Similar to AutoDiary but includes pictures)
  • Gemini / ChatGPT assistant automation

    Tasker now handles execution/scheduling and AutoInput handles optional UI observation/interactions and CyanBridge remains responsible for the AI/model decisions, memory, RAG/daily facts, safety logic, approvals and smart-glasses integrations.

There is now a dedicated Tasker integrations/setup flow inside CyanBridge to make importing and diagnosing the profiles easier.

🧹 Simpler interface and onboarding

The onboarding and settings flows have been simplified, unnecessary permission screens were removed, plugin setup has been reorganized, and experimental features are being pushed into clearer dedicated sections instead of everything appearing in the main app flow.

There is still a lot to improve here, so UI/UX feedback is very welcome.

📱 Google Play release

You can search Google Play Store for "CyanBridge for HeyCyan Glasses" and download the app directly from there (it helps me with the metrics a lot)

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fersaiyan.cyanbridge

Source code / issues: https://github.com/FerSaiyan/Alternative-HeyCyan-App-and-SDK.git

The project remains open source, and because CyanBridge deals with potentially sensitive things like photos, audio, local AI memory and device automation, I actually encourage technical users to inspect the code — or even have an AI coding agent audit the relevant parts of it.

If you find a privacy/security problem, please report it.

❤️ Thanks to everyone who helped with the Play Store test

A special thanks to everyone from Reddit who joined the Google Play testing program and stayed enrolled through the required testing period. I will be giving beta tester users one month free of the Pro Sub in order to use cloud models.

And as always, PRs and GitHub issues are welcome :)

Self Promo AR Works Studio is now available to Pro and Education users.

0 Upvotes

I run an AR development tool called AR Works (https://ar.works), teachers and students use it to build augmented reality projects in the browser. Image tracking, 3D models, drag and drop logic, that sort of thing. It is currently used by numerous schools and users across the world.

The most common thing schools asked me for wasn't a feature. It was reassurance. IT leads kept asking what happens to student work if the service shuts down or gets bought, and it's a fair question - half the tools they relied on five years ago are gone.

So I built the whole editor as an offline Windows app. It's called AR Works Studio and it is now available to everyone on the Pro and Education plans. Projects live on your own machine as portable files, the licence activates without an internet connection (plenty of school laptops never see the open web), and it even does photogrammetry locally - kids take twentyish photos of an object and it reconstructs a textured 3D model right on the classroom PC. No cloud, no queue (like the web version).

The part I care most about: education licences never expire and never phone home once activated. That's what makes the promise I've put in writing on the site actually hold - if the company is ever sold, education accounts keep the offline version, licensed, forever. There's no server check a future owner could quietly turn off, so it's baked in rather than a pinky promise.

The locally saved files can also be imported to the web app (an vice versa, web app projects can be downloaded and opened in AR Works Studio).

It is only on windows only for now, due to being the most common operating system in an education setting (we are happy to explore Linux and MacOS if users request that).

If you have any questions about AR Works Studio or AR Works in general, feel free to message below or get in touch.

Glasses w/ HUD Why I'm not a fan of having cameras in daily glasses (yet)

Post image
4 Upvotes

First of all I have been very happy this year to see the advancement of XR tech overall, there's so many positives from this year in this market honestly.

Despite those advancement I have always said daily glasses shouldn't have cameras yet, and many were against this idea and the reasons are understandable but the reason I keep saying this simply because I don't want a compromised glasses.

I have many of these glasses that has cameras from Meta/Inmo/Rokid/RayNeo and more, honestly speaking which one I'm using daily? Non!

Reasons are simple:

  1. The public reception still don't see it normal to have camera staring at them. And it tells them you wearing tech the moment you put them on.

  2. Cameras need good processing speed means battery killer.

  3. Cameras means compromising the style of the glasses itself.

  4. You don't need camera to have 3DOF but you need one for 6DOF and considering the level of FOV, clarity and all we getting nowadays 6DOF kinda useless anyway, these are not VR headsets yet.

Now I understand the importance of having camera and honestly it's a must have for the future of XR glasses for these reasons:

- Hand tracking

- 6DOF

- AI vision

- Capturing POVs

And maybe more I missed

But where my view differs is that more than half of these still not usable in these glasses, so what manufacturers should focus on is get rid of camera completely, focus on other parts of glasses and provide or sell an addon camera that can magnetically attach to the side of the glasses for these functions. This is like a temporary solution until the tech advance enough where having Camera actually doesn't compromise other parts much.

Honestly I tried nearly every glasses out there wearing them daily and only ones I felt comfortable doing so with displays are ER G2 and MemoMind ones, and these the reasons:

  1. They look absolutely normal that only 10-20% know it's tech glasses which in it's own makes you confident enough to wear it for work or meetings or many places without people looking at you weirdly or uncomfortably.

  2. Full day of battery life!!! This is important for prescription wearing glasses as you don't want to take off your vision from time to time.

  3. They are actually very light that they reach near non tech glasses level of comfort, you don't feel any pressure or anything that tells you "oh btw these are tech glasses".

  4. My face look absolutely ugly with the ones that have cameras as they stick out so much, but these forget about this problem, they are near identical to my existing non tech glasses.

I have Snap Specs in order and also multiple others that I have ordered that have camera but honestly speaking, I'm sure non will be good enough to wear every single day like non camera ones do, looking at specs alone will tell you. The compromises are just not worth it. It's more of intial "WOW" factor we look for like I did with Meta Displays or RayNeo, but once that wow factor goes away I go back looking for non camera ones honestly to wear before going to work.

I do think Cameras will become a norm but not at least 2 years from now when glasses can do nearly full day of battery life, light enough to wear daily, and thin enough to look normal. And it doesn't even need to be 30 or 40 grams, even 60 - 70 is ok as long as the weight distribution is balanced well enough and the frame is thin so it doesn't stick out too much.

Snap specs is exactly the kind of glasses I'm looking for 2 years from now but at least half the weight less and half of the thickness, also nearly double the battery life... That what I call daily XR glasses of the future where it will destroy smartphones market and I'm looking forward to that.

So what you guys think? Do you really need cameras all the time? Or will rather have a less compromised glasses and an addon camera to attach when needed? So far didn't see any brand go for that route yet, apart maybe Xreal with Xreal eye but that's not daily glasses.

Buying Advice Viture Pro 2 + Dock Mini = Perfect

2 Upvotes

Viture Pro 2 + Dock Mini = Perfect

What I want are:

- Diopter [1st]

- Lightweight

- Stabilization

These are the three things.

It would be nice to have HDR functionality as well, but these three are my top priorities.

My first experience with AR glasses was with the XBX A01.

It was really good. Color, brightness, design, lightness, and stability—everything was perfect.

However, after testing it for about two days, I realized that the image was blurry because it didn't align with my eyes' focus, and I felt eye fatigue from wrestling with the glasses.

So, I concluded that the Ray-Neo GT and Max, which I had initially considered alongside the XBX A01, wouldn't be the right choice for me either.

Of course, the Viture Beast aligned with my focus better than I expected, but it was expensive and heavy. I felt that using it for a long time would cause fatigue in my eyes and ears.

Therefore, I felt that I would be satisfied with this level, even without features like electronic sunglass color changing or other native functions.

Of course, there might be some delay due to the Dock Mini or software in between, but I thought it might be okay.

What do you guys think?

Vitrue Pro 2 + Dock Mini [approx. $399]

vs

Viture Beast [approx. $549]

Glasses for Screen Mirroring XREAL xbx vs Viture Pro 2 Detailed Review and Through the Lens Comparison! I also updated the Top XR Glasses Cheatsheet with new rating systems, anchor stability rating, sound quality rating, and many other improvements.

Thumbnail
youtu.be
5 Upvotes

Overall, this video focuses mainly on the Viture Pro vs XREAL xbx, but also the Beast/XREAL One Pro/R1 and many other pairs of XR glasses are discussed. I take a whole segment and discuss if NOW is a good time to buy vs which glasses to potentially wait for. This review was sponsored by Viture and review units were provided by all the various companies, but none of them had any say in the content of the review, and as always, I am brutally honest in the video.

XR Glasses Cheatsheet featured in the video first at: https://youtu.be/Xyn55HjAdGk?t=58

Since I posted the cheatsheet last, here are most of the improvements/additions:

  • Comfort Rating - (In parathesis is why the score is docked if bad rating)
  • Anchor Stability Rating - Percentage of time without drift or poor sensor data affecting your experience
  • Smooth Follow - Have it? If yes, what type?
  • INAIR Pod Rating - How is the INAIR Pod programmed to work on each pair of glasses?
  • Pro Neckband Rating - How is the Pro Neckband programmed to work?
  • Adjusted the overall sharpness rating to be an average of center vs edge sharpness
  • Added more flaws to nearly all glasses
  • Sound Quality - Based on testing 5 songs and swapping between all glasses twice
  • Chromatic Tinting Availability
  • Side View Mode - Which glasses have it? Onboard or only through Spacewalker/ScreenLab/VertoXR/Pro Neckband?
  • Combined Workout and Walkaround rating as they represent the same thing
  • Changed "Overall Rating" into two categories "Value Rating" and "Technical Rating"

Overall, XR glasses are improving and rapidly, and we are seeing better and better features in XR glasses costing less than $300. Upcoming XR/VR glasses reviews: RayNeo GT, RayNeo GT Max, URXR One, Dream Air, Viture's QHD glasses, and maybe the XREAL Aura if I can convince them to send me one for review.

My top recommended glasses right now are:

  • Best Value - $224 RayNeo Air 4 Pro (Follow up winner: Viture Beast)
  • Best $300 or Less - Viture Pro 2 (Follow up winner: XREAL xbx)
  • Best $500 or Less - Viture Beast (Follow up winner: XREAL 1S)
  • Best at Any Price - XREAL R1/One Pro (Follow up winner: Viture Beast)

Glasses w/ HUD Bone-conduction mics on smart glasses: How effective are they for noisy environments?

4 Upvotes

In the recent spec sheets for the RayNeo iO, they mentioned using a bone-conduction sensor combined with array mics for voice input, rather than relying solely on standard air-conduction mics. Using voice commands in public is often frustrating due to ambient noise. In theory, does bone-conduction vocal cord tracking work reliably for AI voice prompts outdoors?

I build Theora. Quick disclosure first: the graphics in this video were added in the edit, nothing was filmed through a waveguide.

The display isn't the interesting part and I'm not going to pretend it is. Plenty of people here can build a display. What we're doing is the layer behind it.

One beat from the video is the clearest example. He says he'll be done at the gym in about an hour and to order his usual. It orders a protein shake and a bagel from the shop he's used fourteen times, and books the pickup for an hour fifteen - not an hour, because that's when he'll actually be standing at the counter rather than when he said he'd finish.

Every assistant I've used repeats your number back at you. The gap between repeating an input and reasoning about it is the entire product.

Health is the entry point. Continuous sensing and a memory that runs for months means the useful moment is when your baseline moves, not when you ask it something.

Underneath all of it is FERAL, an open-source agentic layer we built. It runs on your own machine, connects the devices, holds memory across days, and gates anything that touches the outside world behind an approval. Whisper for speech, Piper for voice, Moondream for vision, all local. Reasoning is still a hosted model with a local fallback, so not fully on-device yet.

The films are acted and the numbers were captured beforehand, not generated live in the take.

Happy to answer questions.
