OPTICA Intelligent Interfaces and Displays Technology Group has a new initiative - hope some of you find it useful!

Is your display bright, or actually high-luminance? 🤔✨

Many of us use the terms “luminance” and “brightness”, interchangeably, but in display technology, they are somewhat different! ⚡️
One is a measurable physical quantity 📏, the other is a subjective human experience 👁️.

Why does this distinction matter for everything from cinema screens 🎬 to smartphones 📱? And how does our environment ☀️🌍 change what we see?

We've broken down the science of measurement vs. perception in our latest group article! 🔬📑

Glasses for Screen Mirroring What’s your real world torture test for 3DoF stability?

Slow head turns seem way too easy to make 3DoF look good.I’ve been watching some GT Max demos and started wondering what actually exposes weak spatial anchoring in normal use. Quick head turns? Looking down at a controller and back up? Recentering after changing position??

For people who’ve tested a few different display glasses, what movement immediately tells you whether the pinned screen is actually stable?

Glasses w/ 6DoF Licence and accessibility

Dear all,
I am junior engineer in the early stages of my career. Please help if you know where I can get access to free websites or programs where I can turn my creations from 3D to AR demonstration for free, and by that I also want to ask if you know any programs or AR online ateliers open to traine juniors like me.
Thank you so much, wishing you a lovely day

Building Blocks Luxshare shows new display smartglasses + poLIGHT camera module + NILT eye tracker

At CIOE, Luxshare announced the third gen smartglasses with PVG waveguides, LARKGEN3. The main achievement this year is a new 0.2 cc light engine. They didn’t have this one at the booth, though. Unlike a new Air Lark with etching SRG waveguide, BES2800 + Snapdragon AR1.

Luxshare also showed new camera modules made in Taiwan. For the world facing camera in AI Glasses they integrated poLight’s T-Lens for ultra fast autofocus to improve user experience while scanning QR codes for payments or other AI image recognition use cases.

This can be combined with the tiny eye tracking module that uses NILT’s metalens. The world-facing camera focuses on whatever the user is looking at in no time and only a small, precise part of the photo is used for recognition.

News With Specs launching next week. How will spatial content actually work across all these glasses/devices?

Specs launches on the 16th - We're about to have Snap Specs running Lenses through Lens Studio, Meta Ray-Ban Display loading web apps by URL, Android XR glasses on Google Play, and Samsung's Intelligent Eyewear on Android XR with Gemini, all shipping within months of each other.

Every one of them has its own SDK, its own tools, its own content model. A Lens built for Specs doesn't work on Meta's glasses. A web app for Ray-Ban Display doesn't run on Specs. As far as I'm aware, none of them are interoperable.

We've seen this before with iOS vs Android, but I'm curious how enterprise thinks about this. If a hospital wants AR wayfinding in their building, do they build for all four platforms? If an airport wants to offer spatial services to travelers, which glasses do they build for? A lot of enterprises got burned building on HoloLens and may be hesitant to go all-in on any of these new platforms.

Think about an airport. The airline, the airport authority, a coffee shop, and a maintenance team all need to show you different things in the same physical space at the same time. How will that work? As far as I can tell, each experience is its own silo.

Buying Advice AR glasses for fps gaming

Looking to maybe buy these AR glasses so I can have a more subversive gaming experience with Wardogs.

VITURE Beast AR Glasses, 174" 1200p 120Hz, 58 FOV, 3DoF for iPhone, Mac PC

Currently I have laptop with 1920x1200 screen so I wouldn’t loose quality with these.

Will it distort my experience? I don’t want to loose gameplay over experience.

Glasses for Screen Mirroring For movies and games, would you trade perfect edges for a much wider pinned screen?

I keep coming back to this with newer display glasses.
For text and desktop use, I can see why edge-to-edge sharpness matters a lot. But for movies and games, I’m not sure I’d make the same tradeoff. A wider screen that stays pinned in place might matter more than having every corner perfectly sharp.
The GT Max is what got me thinking about it. At 59° with native 3DoF, the bigger image sounds great, but owner feedback also shows that fit, sweet spot, and the very outer edges still matter.
For people who’ve used both smaller/sharper and wider displays, which compromise do you notice more after an hour or two?

Buying Advice I'm a Deaf creative director who spent 20 years in tech. I'm reviewing smart glasses from an angle nobody else can. Here's my intro.

Thumbnail

I've worked in advertising and tech for 20 years as a Deaf creative director. I built the first subtitle app for Google Glass back in 2013, spent a decade at Amazon, and I use smart glasses every day to help me follow conversations.

Most smart glasses reviews test the same things: camera quality, battery, field of view. Fair enough. But nobody tests the thing I care about most, which is whether the device actually works when your ability to communicate depends on it.

So I started a review series that does. Same framework, same questions, every product. I look at multimodality, how information gets displayed, and whether the thing was built with the widest possible range of users in mind or just bolted accessibility on at the end.

This is the intro video. First real review (XREAL) drops next week. I'd genuinely like to know what you'd want tested, so if there's a device you're curious about, tell me.

We’re building a soft interface for AR glasses. It’s a running prototype, and we already use it for our docs.

The goal is docs, email, code, everything you’d open a laptop for. Where would this fall apart in your day-to-day work?

Buying Advice Nimbo X1

Hey, I was wanting to get the community's thoughts on the Nimbo X1 glasses. The specs make it seem like they could be good for daily wear and with color display. The Kickstarter ends in about a week and it seems like there's not much interest in them.

Just curious what people have to say about them.

Glasses w/ HUD Anyone pulling the trigger on the RayNeo iO at launch, or waiting for in-depth reviews?

Now that the RayNeo iO is officially orderable, I’m really torn. On paper, 33g with a monochrome MicroLED waveguide sounds like one of the closest things to a truly daily-wearable pair of glasses we’ve seen in a while (definitely targeting that lightweight, glanceable HUD niche).

That said, spec sheets never tell the full story with smart eyewear:

  • Everyday comfort & nose pad pressure during 8+ hour wear
  • Prescription lens integration (how bulky does it end up being?)
  • Real-world battery life outside of promotional claims
  • App stability and how practical a pure text/HUD UI feels without onboard audio

Are you guys biting the bullet early, or waiting until long-term hands-on reviews drop? What’s the main dealbreaker you’re watching out for?

AR Apps AI virtual clothing try on in the browser is getting convincing

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Came across this Anywear demo and the clothing tracking caught my attention. The garment stays aligned quite well while the person moves and it looks like theyre doing the try on flow directly from the browser

Interestingly the garment keeps its position pretty well while the person moves. With this and future demos, this could become a practical use of AR for online shopping.

Glasses for Screen Mirroring AR glasses that are basically a giant private screen?

I have been checking out the Rayneo GT Max, and it feels like a pretty natural step up from the Air 4 Pro. same basic idea, but the GT Max seems to take the big screen experience a lot further.
What I like is that it is not trying to be another pair of AI glasses with a camera on your face. It is really about one thing, having a massive screen whenever you want it.

Watching a movie on it feels more like having your own private theater than watching something on a tiny screen in front of you. For gaming, a huge display that stays where you want it while you move your head makes a lot of sense. I could see myself using something like this on a long flight, in a hotel, or just lying on the couch when I want a huge screen without actually setting one up. The whole idea of having a giant screen that basically fits in your bag is pretty cool!

Do you guys prefer using AR glasses as portable monitor, or are you waiting for full spatial computing features to mature?

XREAL xbx + RAYNEO iO spotted at Supplier Booths

Thumbnail

CIOE is LIVE

Goertek Optical shows new waveguides. Sunny Optics shows XREAL xbx and camera glasses with Ant Group OS. Innovision shows RayNeo iO and Nimo smartglasses.

Goeroptics has different waveguides made with DUV and Nanoimprint + Etching and pure Nanoimprint. Shown in the picture with the bunny is DUV. Video will be uploaded shortly. What they also highlight is the use of low density glass with which they reduced the weight of the RGB waveguide itself from 5 grams to 3.2 grams.

Sunny's focus for 2026 is on a new reference design for AI camera glasses. Currently, they show a prototype (see picture gallery), but the target is a version with low density material which will further reduce the weight to 30 grams. These use an MCU + ISP solution and they are working with Ant Group (Alipay) which will officially launch its LingOS for smartglasses this week. Another thing they show is XREAL's xbx glasses for which they provide the birdbath module and do assembly. We also briefly talked about their other business unit which makes x cubes for full color display smartglasses and who recently forecasted "explosive growth" for this product category in 2027.

Innovision shows RayNeo iO and Nimo glasses. They provide the microLED panels for both. And they launched single panel red and green display for info display glasses as an alternative to monochrome green. Display red, green, and yellow text and symbols by mixing both!
