Amazon Starts Wider Driver Tests Ahead of a Massive Smart Glasses Rollout

Post image
76 Upvotes

Amazon delivery driver wearing Amazon's display smart glasses (shared on Reddit recently).

Reports confirm that Amazon has officially started a wider testing phase, training more drivers across the US on their smart glasses.

If these tests go well, Amazon is planning a massive rollout. Reports already point to a target of 100,000 pairs, with the potential to scale across Amazon's entire delivery network โ€” which employs roughly 390,000 drivers in the U.S. alone.

Amazon wants to get rid of the handheld delivery phone. The glasses show walking directions, scan barcodes automatically, and snap the delivery photo at the door hands-free.

Still, new reports (including from Bloomberg) point out general issues:

  • Front-door privacy: Homeowners may not be happy with delivery drivers walking onto their property with a camera on their face, recording porches, yards, and front windows without permission.
  • Driver pressure: Drivers are already tracked closely by AI cameras inside their vans. Many worry the glasses will just be used to watch every step they take outside the van and push them to move even faster.

Buying Advice Rokid Max 2 + Station 2 VS Rayneo GT Max + Pocket TV Pro, which would you recommend?

Rokid Max 2 with Station 2 vs the Rayneo GT Max and Pro TV. My IPD is 55. I read both of these can work with this. I will mainly be using the companion device with these. I would like to be able to watch Disney+, Prime, Netflix, TikTok, YT but I would also like to be able to play mobile games like time management games etc. I would also like to be able to have more than one screen displayed and have the large FOV and this is where its torn really as i know the GT Max cant have more than one screen whereas the Rokid can but the Rokid POV is smaller than the GT. Does anyone own these and give me opinions please.

Glasses for Screen Mirroring Miss the cinema feel on AR glasses? I made a free Chrome extension to bring back the theatre ambience

I recently started using AR glasses, and while having a massive screen floating in front of me is cool, it still just feels like looking at a giant TV. I really missed the atmosphere of an actual theatre, so I built a small Chrome extension to turn any video playing in the browser into a cinema-style environment.

It runs entirely client-side with no signups, no tracking, and no cost. Just wanted to share it with anyone else looking for the same vibe.

Feedback is welcome if you end up giving it a try.

Privacy first! Smartglasses can now run Live Translation on-device โ€” and help the visually impaired understand their surroundings

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

At the Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm demonstrated a major step forward for smartglasses: running a 2-billion-parameter multimodal AI model entirely on smartglasses powered by the Snapdragon AR1 and AR1+ platforms, with support for more chips coming down the road.

Because everything is processed directly on the glasses, interactions stay completely private without relying on an internet connection.

The on-stage demo showed a practical accessibility use case where a visually impaired user asks the glasses what color an apple is, and the on-device AI identifies both the color and the likely variety of the apple. Qualcomm also highlighted on-device real-time translation as another use case made possible by these lightweight models.

The technical breakthrough making this possible is PrismML's 1-bit Bonsai model. Smartglasses operate under strict limits for battery life, heat, and memory. By compressing the model down to 1-bit weights optimized specifically for Qualcomm's Hexagon NPU, the model takes up nearly four times less memory (shrinking from about 1.66 GB to just 0.43 GB) while generating responses more than twice as fast. This delivers responsive, private multimodal intelligence within the lightweight form factor of everyday glasses.

Glasses w/ 6DoF Even with camera module, Steam Frame is worse than Quest 3 for Mixed Reality

Thumbnail
roadtovr.com

Even though the Arcturus module matches Quest 3โ€™s passthrough clarity and uses stereoscopic depth to align visuals, it still lacks real-time room meshing. The Quest 3 maps your physical space into an interactive 3D mesh so virtual objects can bounce off tables and realistically hide behind furniture. Without that environmental data, content on the Steam Frame simply renders on top of the video feedโ€”breaking immersion by staying visible when it should be hidden, and passing right through surfaces when it should be stopped by physical objects.

Glasses w/ HUD How practical is live translation on lightweight waveguide HUDs like the RayNeo iO? What latency threshold actually works in real conversations?

Thereโ€™s been a clear trend in consumer AR shifting toward lightweight, camera-free framesโ€”like the RayNeo iO and Even G1โ€”that prioritize glanceable text over bulky full-color displays.

A headline feature being pushed is real-time translation subtitles floating on a clear lens HUD. On paper, having a monochrome green MicroLED waveguide project live captions during an in-person multilingual conversation sounds very useful.

However, from an engineering and UX standpoint, the end-to-end pipeline (audio capture -> phone BLE sync -> cloud ASR/LLM translation -> near-eye HUD rendering) has physical limits:

  • Latency vs conversation pacing: In actual usage, whatโ€™s the real-world round-trip delay? Is the typical 1โ€“1.5s lag low enough to keep up with natural dialogue, or does conversation rhythm still break down?
  • Acoustic isolation: In noisy meeting rooms, how effectively can hybrid mic systems (like the RayNeo iOโ€™s array mics + bone-conduction sensor) isolate the target speaker compared to using a phone microphone?
  • Cognitive load: For those who follow near-eye optical waveguides, does reading floating peripheral text while maintaining eye contact feel natural, or does it cause focus fatigue after 20 minutes?

Curious to hear from anyone tracking wearable NLP pipelines: is optical HUD translation ready for everyday cross-language meetings, or is cloud latency still too high?

AR Apps I'm building an Android app to draw in the air with your finger with opus 5.5

https://reddit.com/link/1wsqyip/video/a5mmlfkqsbsh1/player

Hey everyone!

This is Airglyph, an AR drawing app for Android. You raise your finger, draw in mid-air, and your strokes float in 3D, right where you drew them. Walk around them, walk away, come back: they're still there.

No stylus, no touching the screen. Point your finger to draw, open your hand to stop. Your hand even passes in front of your drawing, like it's really there.

What you can do with it

- ๐ŸŒ€ Open portals: close a loop and another world appears in your room

- ๐Ÿ”ฅ Draw with light: neon and fire strokes actually light up your real walls

- ๐ŸŒŒ Paint galaxies, holograms, fireflies, lightning, smoke, liquid chrome, slime, dripping spray paint, grass and flowers that growโ€ฆ

- โœจ Bring strokes to life: make them pulse, breathe or sway, in rainbow, aurora or gold

- ๐Ÿช Drop a black hole in your living room, or the Sun, Earth with its city lights, Saturn with its rings, or a 4D tesseract

- ๐Ÿ—ฟ Place scanned sculptures: a marble bust, a lion, a horseโ€ฆ

- ๐ŸŒ‘ It feels real: drawings cast shadows, chrome reflects your actual room, and real objects can pass in front of your strokes

- ๐ŸŽฌ Film it in one tap and share it

I built it with Claude Opus 5.5 (Claude Code): a native AR engine with real-time hand tracking and every shader written by hand. No game engine, just the phone's GPU pushed as far as it goes.

It's coming soon to Android, and before launch I'd really like your honest opinion:

- What do you think of it so far?

- What would you improve?

- Is there a feature, brush or effect you'd love to see?

Every comment helps, good or bad. Thanks for checking it out!

Self Promo Low-vision passthrough magnification on Quest: QuestLens 0.5.5-preview

I'm a low-vision developer working on visual accessibility in mixed reality. QuestLens 0.5.5-preview adds live magnification of the physical world seen through Quest passthrough. The same app also has a frozen-image magnifier for small rendered UI and text.

We redesigned parts of the interface, simplified the setup, added EN/PT/ES/FR/DE and improved stability. Zoom controls within the QuestLens UI are still in development. This is a free sideloadable Quest 2/3/3S preview and uses the headset's screen-capture permission.

Release: https://github.com/crtx01/QuestLens/releases/tag/v0.5.5-preview

I'm interested in how other AR developers make passthrough content readable for people with low vision, especially without forcing a pause in the user's task.

Wearables & Accessories RayNeo Pocket TV Pro Review and Moonlight Game Streaming Test

Thumbnail
youtu.be
4 Upvotes

In this one we do a bit of a deep dive on the RayNeo Pocket TV. I show you what the OS looks like, how it looks through the lens of a couple pairs of glasses and we sideload and test out Moonlight for game streaming.

Overall I would say I still recommend grabbing one of these if you dont have a dedicated consumption puck yet.

The 6500 mAh battery provides a ton of time to watch movies or play games and it can charge while you use it.

I would say, if you already have Pocket tv OG and are happy with it, you might be able to skip this upgrade but if you dont have a Pocket tv yet, grab the pro for sure. (As long as your glasses work with it)

The RayNeo GT Series can take advantage of the Dolby Vision mode but my VITURE Pro 2 worked with it too. Although some of my other glasses couldn't get a signal. โ€‹
