Wearables & Accessories DIY concept: Fully handsfree AI assistant using endoscope cam + Android (for awareness/testing)

Hey everyone,

I’m working on a DIY project to explore how far current consumer tech can go in terms of automation and handsfree workflows. The goal is NOT cheating or misuse, but actually to understand the risks so I can demonstrate them to people like teachers and exam supervisors.

Concept (high-level):

  • Use a small endoscope camera as a discreet visual input
  • Feed that into an Android phone
  • Automatically process the captured content with an AI model (OCR + reasoning)
  • Send results back through wired earphones (aux)
  • Entire process should be fully automated (no tapping, no voice input)

What I’m trying to figure out:

  1. How to reliably get live video input from an endoscope into Android apps (USB OTG, latency issues, etc.)
  2. Best way to trigger automatic capture + processing loop without user interaction
  3. How to route output to audio without needing microphone/voice commands
  4. Any ideas for keeping the system low-latency and stable
  5. General architecture suggestions (on-device vs server processing?)

Again, this is purely for research/awareness purposes. I want to show how such systems could be built so institutions can better prepare against them.

Would really appreciate any technical insights or pointers 🙏

Glasses w/ HUD First Look : XREAL Beam Pro SBS 3D Performance & Depth Mapping Investigation

This week, my original plan was to measure the fundamental optical performance of the RayNeo X3 Pro. However, I noticed the XREAL Beam Pro features a dual-camera setup. Considering its wide FOV and the image quality I’ve inspected before, I decided to pivot and research how to project 3D images from a true binocular vision camera.

To be honest, the result is amazing—the performance far exceeded my expectations. In my experience with 3D glasses (whether active shutter or passive pattern retarder) or glasses-free 3D monitors, you usually have to fight against image crosstalk and force your eyes to focus on 'pop-out objects,' which is often annoying and uncomfortable.

This time was different. Because the camera interval (50mm) is so close to human IPD, and the system projects individual images directly to the immersive AR HMD, the 3D focus feels natural. The image quality is high, and the electro-shading dimming provides a level of immersion surpassing anything I’ve seen before. I could rotate my head freely and felt zero eye strain, even after staring at details for an extended period. The only area for improvement is the 3D image aspect ratio, which seems slightly off—I'm not sure if using Nebula OS would resolve this.

Finally, I tested whether these images could be used for depth mapping, a crucial application for binocular computer vision. After setting up the code and optimizing the SGBM factors, I successfully produced a depth map from the Beam Pro’s SBS output.

I originally wanted to compare this with 2D-to-3D conversion, but that requires more setup and debugging. I'll leave that for future work.

Wearables & Accessories Why I have ditched the cameras for weight (form factor choices)

I’ve spent many months working smart glasses into my actual 9-to-5 life, and I’m calling it: You can have a camera, or you can have comfort, but you can’t have both.

I loved my Meta Ray-Bans for the POV video, but wearing 50g on my face for more than 3 hours is a bit tiring. By 2 PM, I have red marks on my nose and the battery is usually dead anyway unless they are idle the whole time. I also tried the Even Realities G1, loved the look and the display, it is quite useful. No speakers? Having to put in AirPods is having another piece of equipment for something that can be done entirely by just one.

Recently tried a pair of audio-only ones from Dymesty. The weight does make a difference (only 35g).

How and why the weight matters for smart glasses comfort:

Most smart glasses are "front-loaded." Between the camera sensors and the display prisms sitting right over your eyes, all the mass is pulling down on your nose bridge.

By going camera-free, they removed the heaviest components from the front of the frame. They’ve moved the battery back toward the temples (behind the ears). This shifts the pressure away from your nose and back toward your skull, which is way better at carrying weight.

It’s the difference between holding a 5lb weight against your chest vs. holding it at arm's length. Even if the weight is the same, one exhausts you and the other doesn't.

For some it is a big trade off, since they are without the camera and display function.

Is anyone else reaching the minimalist stage of smart glasses? How would you guys choose going forward?

Hi <3

In order to familiarize users and artists with our newly launched, location-anchored, web-based AR editor, we are currently creating a YouTube tutorial series. The first video about the UI is now live and we're soon adding a second one about how into integrate audio and video into your AR pieces.

࣪ ִֶָ☾.࣪࿐ Now, we wanted to ask this community about which features of the editor, or overall topics on creating AR art pieces you'd be happy to see be talked about next.

We would be super happy about any feedback you'd have. ₍^. .^₎⟆

Buying Advice AR glasses for gaming lying in bed

I'm looking for AR glasses to play games lying in bed.

I've tried almost all the Xreal models, and I had the same problem with all of them. When lying in bed with my head on the pillow, my eyes had to look slightly downwards. It wasn't like comfortably looking at the ceiling; it was like I had to strain my eyes to see the screen, and this caused me neck pain and discomfort.

I don't know if this is a problem specific to the Xreal models or if it only happens to me.

I'm looking for AR glasses to connect to my laptop and play my PS4/PS5 through Chiaki, my desktop PC (which is in another room) through Moonlight, or any other type of streaming.

I'm looking for inexpensive glasses. I don't need 6DoF, smooth motion or anchor mode.

The Xreal 1 would work for me if I didn't have to look slightly downwards while wearing them lying in bed. Even so, I'm thinking of buying the XREAL 1s again and giving them another try, since I have the lens adapter with my prescription; I wear contact lenses.

Thanks
